Although the Aviators fell in a one-run affair on Thursday, third baseman Sheldon Neuse turned in the day’s most impressive performance among A’s minor leaguers. The 24-year-old reached base 4 times, collecting a pair of singles and a walk while homering for the second straight day and driving in 3 runs in the game, and Neuse is now slashing .308/.372/.474 on the season. Left fielder Mark Payton had 3 hits, including a home run, and drove in 3 runs, while shortstop Franklin Barreto homered, walked twice and drove in a pair. Starter Tyler Alexander allowed 5 runs over 4 frames, while RHP Brian Schlitter gave up the winning run in the top of the 9th to take the loss for Las Vegas. Meanwhile, Aviators RHP Joel Seddon was reassigned to Stockton.

The RockHounds went down to defeat in the first game of Thursday’s doubleheader. Starter Logan Verrett allowed 5 runs over 4 frames, while LHP Zack Erwin was charged with 3 runs, 2 earned, in 1 1/3 innings of relief to record the loss for the RockHounds. Catcher Jonah Heim had a big game at the plate, collecting 3 hits, including a double, drawing a walk and driving in a pair. Third baseman Edwin Diaz tripled, doubled and drove in a run, and center fielder Dairon Blanco singled twice, stole a base, and drove in a pair of runs for the RockHounds.

RHP Matt Milburn turned in a solid start to help Midland win Thursday’s second game and earn a split in their twinbill with Tulsa. Milburn allowed 2 runs, just 1 earned, over 5 frames to pick up the win, while RHP Kyle Finnegan tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief to record his 4th save for the RockHounds. Center fielder Chase Calabuig tripled in a run and drew a pair of walks, while catcher Collin Theroux singled, doubled and drove in a pair of runs for the RockHounds.

Stockton suffered its seventh straight loss on Thursday. Starter Daulton Jefferies was solid once again, throwing 3 scoreless innings for Stockton, but his tandem-pitching partner, LHP Jared Poche, gave up 4 runs over 2 2/3 frames to suffer his 4th loss. Catcher JJ Schwarz singled in a run, and shortstop Nick Allen notched a pair of doubles and drove in a run for the Ports. Meanwhile, Stockton starter Wyatt Marks was placed on the injured list and RHP Joel Seddon was reassigned to Stockton from Las Vegas.
