The Ports prevailed for the third time in their last four games on Friday. RHP Kyle Friedrichs turned in an outstanding start for Stockton, allowing just 1 run while striking out 5 over 6 innings of work to earn the win in his return to the California League after spending most of this season with Double-A Midland. LHP Pat Krall permitted 1 unearned run in 2 innings of relief, and RHP Sam Sheehan tossed a scoreless 9th to secure his 1st save for Stockton. Third baseman Nate Mondou had 2 hits, including a double, drew a walk and drove in a run, while center fielder Luis Barrera singled twice, walked and scored twice. First baseman Sandber Pimentel singled and drew 3 walks, and right fielder Chase Calabuig doubled in a pair of runs for the Ports. While Friedrichs returned to Stockton from the RockHounds, Ports pitcher Dustin Hurlbutt was placed on the disabled list.

The Sounds won the first game of Friday’s doubleheader to run their winning streak to five games. Center fielder Ramon Laureano had 3 hits, including a double, stole a base, scored twice and drove in 2 runs, while catcher Beau Taylor singled, doubled and drove in a pair. Left fielder Melvin Mercedes tripled, doubled, drew a walk and scored twice, and designated hitter Anthony Garcia doubled in a pair of runs for the Sounds. Reliever Dean Kiekhefer made the spot start and allowed 1 run over 3 innings of work, while LHP Danny Coulombe picked up the win despite giving up 2 runs in 2 innings of relief, and RHP Bobby Wahl pitched 2 perfect innings to close out the victory in the first game of Friday’s doubleheader. Meanwhile, the A’s promoted Nashville LHP Jeremy Bleich and sent RHP Josh Lucas back to the Sounds on Friday.

The Sounds suffered the loss in the second game of Friday’s doubleheader to see their five-game winning streak snapped. A’s RHP Daniel Mengden allowed 4 runs over 4 innings of work to suffer the loss in his second rehab appearance for the Sounds. Designated hitter Frankln Barreto belted a two-run homer in the top of the 1st inning to give his team an early edge, while third baseman Sheldon Neuse collected 3 hits, and catcher Bruce Maxwell singled, doubled and scored a run for the Sounds.

The RockHounds suffered a one-run loss to Corpus Christi on Friday. RHP Parker Dunshee delivered a strong start, allowing 2 runs on just 3 hits while striking out 7 over 7 innings of work, but he still ended up being saddled with the loss. Designated hitter Brett Siddall singled, doubled, drew a walk and scored a run, and second baseman Eli White walked twice and singled in the RockHounds’ sole run in the loss.

The Snappers suffered a 6-1 loss to South Bend to snap their eight-game winning streak on Friday. Starter Ivan Andueza surrendered 6 runs over just 3 innings of work to take the loss. Mickey McDonald, making just his fifth start at third base, collected 3 hits and tallied his 15th stolen base, while designated hitter Lazaro Armenteros tripled, walked and scored a run for the Snappers in the loss.

Vermont notched its third victory in its last four games on Friday. This year’s 9th-round draft pick for the A’s, RHP Chase Cohen, made the start and threw 3 scoreless innings, while RHP Jose Mora was solid in relief. The 20-year-old was charged with 3 unearned runs thanks to 3 errors by 18-year-old Dominican shortstop Marcos Brito, but he allowed just 1 hit and struck out 7 while allowing no earned runs over 6 innings of work to earn the win and lower his ERA to 0.99, which is good for second best in the league. This year’s 2nd-round pick, center fielder Jameson Hannah, had 2 hits, including a double, while 4th-round pick, designated hitter Alfonso Rivas, singled, doubled and scored a run. Right fielder Anthony Churlin doubled, drew a walk and scored twice, and first baseman Aaron Arruda doubled in the winning run in the top of the 9th for Vermont.

The AZL A’s were shut out on 9 hits on Friday. 20-year-old Dominican RHP Richard Morban made the start and allowed 3 runs over 5 frames to suffer his 2nd loss. 20-year-old Panamanian catcher Jorge Gordon singled twice and walked twice, while 18-year-old Dominican center fielder Kevin Richards collected 3 hits for the A’s in the loss.
