Second Baseman Mikey White

(Grand Slam)

With the bases loaded, one out and Midland up by a run in the top of the 1st inning, second baseman Mikey White stepped to the plate and slugged a grand slam to give the RockHounds a big edge that Frisco could not overcome on Monday. It was White’s team-leading 6th home run as he took sole possession of the RockHounds’ RBI lead with 23. Shortstop Richie Martin and first baseman Brett Vertigan both doubled, while left fielder Seth Brown and designated hitter Brett Siddall each singled in a run for the RockHounds. RHP Ben Bracewell turned in his best start of the season, allowing just 4 hits while striking out 5 over 8 shutout innings to earn his 2nd win for Midland on Monday. In other news, RockHounds RHP Tucker Healy, who made 229 relief appearances since being drafted by Oakland in 2012, was released by the A’s last week and has since signed a minor league contract with the Mariners. Healy had a 3.86 ERA in 5 appearances for Midland this season.

The Snappers won in a walk-off in 12 innings on Monday. With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the 12th, second baseman Trace Loehr came to the plate and lined to a single to left field to bring home the game-winning run for Beloit. Loehr reached base 5 times in the game, singling twice and drawing 3 walks while also swiping a pair of bases for the Snappers. Third baseman Jesus Lopez launched a three-run homer to give Beloit the lead in the bottom of the 8th, while right fielder Jack Meggs singled, doubled and drove in a run. Center fielder Austin Beck drew 3 walks and doubled in a run, and catcher Jordan Devencenzi walked twice and doubled in a pair for the Snappers. 18-year-old left fielder Lazaro Armenteros went 1 for 5, struck out 3 times, doubled and drove in the tying run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 11th in his Beloit debut on Monday. Snappers starter Wyatt Marks allowed 5 runs while striking out a career-high 11 batters over 5 1/3 frames for Beloit. And despite being charged with an unearned run in the top of the 12th, RHP Heath Bowers picked up his 2nd win for the Snappers. While Armenteros was added to the Snappers roster on Monday, shortstop Nick Allen returned to action from bereavement leave, and outfielder Anthony Churlin and third baseman Jake Lumley were both sent to extended spring training in Arizona.
