The Sounds shut out Iowa on four hits in 10 innings on Thursday to win their fifth straight. Starter Brett Anderson was impressive, allowing just 2 hits while striking out 8 over 5 shutout innings to lower his ERA to 1.38, but he left with the game a scoreless tie. RHP Raul Alcantara was solid in relief, throwing 4 scoreless frames to notch the win for Nashville, and RHP Bobby Wahl got the final three outs in the bottom of the 10th to secure the save for the Sounds. Pinch-runner Melvin Mercedes scored the winning run on Anthony Garcia‘s ground out in the 10th, while center fielder Dustin Fowler and first baseman Slade Heathcott had a pair of hits apiece in the win. And after appearing in back-to-back games for the A’s, Oakland optioned RHP Lou Trivino back to Nashville on Thursday.

Catcher Sean Murphy had another big night at the plate, but it wasn’t enough to help Midland prevail on Thursday. 2016’s 3rd-round draft pick for the A’s collected 4 hits, including 3 doubles, and drove in 3 runs for the RockHounds, and the 23-year-old now leads the Texas League in doubles (8) and batting average (.409) and is second in the league in slugging percentage (.795). Shortstop Richie Martin went 1 for 3 with a walk in his return from the disabled list, while left fielder Tyler Ramirez and second baseman J.P. Sportman had a pair of hits apiece for the Hounds. Starter Ben Bracewell surrendered 4 runs in 3 2/3 innings of work to suffer the loss on Thursday.

Stockton was shut out on just four hits on Thursday. RHP Brian Howard turned in another outstanding start, allowing just 1 run while striking out 9 over 5 frames, but he still ended up suffering the loss. Left fielder Dairon Blanco, right fielder Luis Barrera, center fielder Eric Marinez and third baseman Edwin Diaz each singled to account for all the Ports’ hits in the loss.
