WP: Charles 1-0 / 2.89

HR: Bride (5)

Prospect Of The Game:

Third Baseman Jonah Bride

(2 for 4 / Home Run / HBP / 2 RBIs / 2 Runs)

On a night in which A.J. Puk and Jesus Luzardo stole the spotlight in Stockton, third baseman Jonah Bride had big night at the plate for the Ports. Bride belted a two-run blast in the 4th inning, singled, and then was hit by a pitch and ended up scoring the winning run in the 7th. Catcher Robert Mullen singled twice and drove in a pair of runs for the Ports. As for the pitching stars of the night, Puk and Luzardo both looked solid in their season debuts for Stockton. Puk made the start and gave up 1 run on 1 hit, a home run, while walking 1 and striking out 4 over 2 innings of work. He threw 33 pitches, 22 for strikes, and Ports play-by-play man Zack Bayrouty reported that his fastball was sitting at 98-99 mph. Luzardo followed Puk on the mound and allowed 2 hits and struck out 2 over 3 scoreless innings while throwing 33 pitches, 24 for strikes, and Bayrouty reported that his fastball sat around 96-98 mph. The two are expected to make their next joint appearance together next Sunday at Modesto. RHP Wandisson Charles picked up the win despite giving up 2 runs in 2 innings of relief, and RHP Nick Highberger tossed a scoreless 9th to notch his 3rd save for Stockton. To make room on the roster for Puk and Luzardo, Ports RHP Sam Sheehan was placed on the injured list, and outfielder Austin Beck, who hasn’t played since June 1 due to a quad injury, was temporarily assigned to the Vermont roster, but he’s expected to be back in action with Stockton by Friday.
