Vermont notched its fifth victory in its last six games on Wednesday, and the Lake Monsters are now a game over .500 and three games behind division leader Tri-City. This year’s 12th-round draft pick for the A’s, center fielder Noah Vaughan, doubled twice, drew a walk and drove in a pair, while this year’s 4th-round pick, first baseman Alfonso Rivas, had 2 hits, walked and drove in a run, and 20th-round shortstop Max Schuemann singled twice and scored twice for the Lake Monsters. 19-year-old Panamanian RHP Abdiel Mendoza made the start and threw 3 scoreless frames, while 28th-round RHP Reid Birlingmair picked up the win despite giving up 2 runs in 3 innings of relief, and 2017’s 31st-round pick, RHP Brandon Withers, got the final five outs for the Lake Monsters to post his team-leading 5th save.

Starter Norge Ruiz allowed 4 runs in 6 innings of work to take the loss in the first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader. Center fielder Skye Bolt had 2 hits, including a double, and stole a base, while right fielder J.P. Sportman doubled and scored a run, and left fielder Tyler Ramirez singled, drew a walk and drove in a pair of runs for the RockHounds in the loss. Sportman and outfielder Brett Vertigan were both reassigned to the RockHounds from the Sounds on Wednesday.

LHP Evan Manarino allowed 4 runs over 4 1/3 frames to suffer his 6th loss as Stockton lost its third straight on Wednesday. Former A’s farmhand, first baseman Viosergy Rosa, returned to the organization on a minor-league deal and had 2 hits, including a double, and drove in a run in his first appearance for Stockton on Wednesday. Meanwhile, infielder Brallan Perez and first baseman Sandber Pimentel both landed on the disabled list and infielder Edwin Diaz was reassigned to the Ports from the RockHounds on Wednesday.

The Snappers went down to defeat in the completion of a suspended game on Wednesday. Starter Mitchell Jordan had allowed just 1 run over 5 2/3 frames when the game originally began, but RHP Bryce Conley gave up 1 run in 3 innings of relief to suffer the loss for the Snappers. Right fielder Mickey McDonald, who was sent back to the Snappers from the RockHounds on Wednesday, singled, tripled and drove in a run, while shortstop Nick Allen singled twice, and first baseman Hunter Hargrove singled, walked twice and scored a run in the loss.

22-year-old Venezuelan LHP Jhenderson Hurtado made the start and allowed 2 runs over 4 1/3 frames, while RHP Joseph Camacho gave up 2 runs in 1 2/3 innings of relief to suffer the loss for the Snappers. Left fielder Lazaro Armenteros singled twice, walked and scored a run, while right fielder Jack Meggs singled, doubled and scored a run for the Snappers in the loss.
