A’s Prospect Of The Day: Stockton Ports Outfielder Tyler Ramirez (3 for 4 / Double / Walk)

Stockton Ports    5

San Jose Giants  11

LP – Duno 6-4 / 5.47

Prospect Of The Game:

Outfielder Tyler Ramirez

(3 for 4 / Double / Walk)

On a day when all three A’s affiliates who were in action went down to defeat, Stockton left fielder Tyler Ramirez turned in one of the day’s best performances, collecting 3 hits, including a double, while also drawing a walk in his 5 plate appearances for the Ports. And last year’s 7th-round draft pick for the A’s is now hitting .344 over his last 8 games for Stockton. Designated hitter Marcus Semien singled, doubled and drove in a run in his fourth rehab appearance for the Ports, while right fielder Seth Brown had 2 hits and a walk, and second baseman Nate Mondou singled twice and drove in a run. RHP Angel Duno had a shaky start for Stockton, allowing 8 runs, 6 earned, over 5 innings of work to suffer his 4th loss on Tuesday. In other news, catcher Argenis Raga was reassigned from the RockHounds to the Ports, and A’s RHP Chris Bassitt is set to make a one-inning rehab appearance for the Ports on Wednesday.

LP – Sanchez 1-1 / 1.93

Prospect Of The Game:

Outfielder Jaff Decker

(2 for 4 / Double / Walk / RBI)

The Sounds fell for the fifth time in their last six games on Tuesday. Starter Chris Smith struggled in his return to the rotation after being sidelined for two weeks while dealing with kidney stones. The 36-year-old allowed 4 runs over 4 2/3 frames and left the game with his team down by a run. RHP Kyle Finnegan threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings in his Nashville debut, while LHP Patrick Schuster tossed 2 innings of shutout relief, but RHP Jake Sanchez gave up 2 runs in the top of the 9th to suffer his 1st loss for the Sounds. Left fielder Jaff Decker had 2 hits, including a double, walked and drove in a run and is now hitting .375 over his last 9 games for Nashville. Right fielder Mark Canha singled, doubled and walked, while shortstop Melvin Mercedes walked and tripled in a run, and center fielder Kenny Wilson singled twice, walked, drove in a run and stole a pair of bases in the loss. Meanwhile, Nashville RHP Aaron Kurcz, who compiled a 7.24 ERA in 22 relief apperances for the Sounds this season, was reassigned to the RockHounds on Tuesday.

Beloit Snappers  8

Peoria Chiefs      10

LP – Alejo 2-3 / 4.94

Prospect Of The Game:

Third Baseman J.C. Rodriguez

(2 for 4 / Double / 3 RBIs)

The Snappers’ four-game winning streak was snapped in a walk-off on Tuesday. LHP Kyle Twomey had a rough start for the Snappers, surrendering 6 runs on 10 hits over 4 innings of work. He left the game with his team in a 6-run hole, but Beloit came back to tie the game and then take the lead. First baseman Kyle Nowlin walked, singled in a run and scored twice, while left fielder Luke Persico singled in a pair and stole a base. Right fielder JaVon Shelby doubled, walked and scored a run, and third baseman J.C. Rodriguez singled in the tying run in the top of the 6th and doubled in the go-ahead run in the 8th. Catcher Jason Goldstein then drove in another run with a sacrifice fly, but RHP Jesus Zambrano allowed 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th to tie the game again, and RHP Yordys Alejo gave up a 2-run homer in the bottom of the 9th to take the loss as Peoria won in a walk-off.
