Outfielder Jake Goebbert had a big night for the River Cats on Monday, hitting a 2-run homer in the 2nd inning and following up with a solo shot in the 4th, while outfielder Shane Peterson doubled, and designated hitter Kent Matthes and catcher Ryan Ortiz drove in a run apiece for the River Cats. RHP Zach Neal struggled in his second start for Sacramento, giving up 6 runs on 8 hits, including 4 home runs, over 5 innings of work to take the loss for the Cats.

First Baseman Max Muncy

RHP Shawn Haviland made his first for Midland on Monday after being promoted from Stockton late last week. It was also Haviland’s first start at the Double-A level since undergoing Tommy John surgery at the end of 2012. The 28-year-old allowed 5 runs, all unearned, on 6 hits over 6 2/3 innings to take the loss. Throwing errors by shortstop Dusty Coleman and by Haviland himself helped lead to a 5-run 3rd inning for the Hooks. First baseman Max Muncy had a pair of doubles, while outfielder Billy Burns singled and doubled, and outfielder Chad Oberacker had 2 hits and drove in a run for the RockHounds. RHP Nate Long is scheduled to come out of the bullpen to start Tuesday’s game for Midland in place of RHP Tanner Peters, who was placed on the disabled list with a sore shoulder, while LHP Andrew Werner will also come out of the Hounds pen to make a spot start on Thursday for RHP Raul Alcantara, who has a sore right elbow but has not been placed on the disabled list.

RHP Manny Correa had a rocky start for Stockton, giving up 4 runs on 6 hits, including 2 home runs, to take his 2nd loss on Monday. Ports batters managed just 5 hits and struck out 13 times in the game. Designated hitter Ryon Healy, one of the few who didn’t strike out, went 1 for 3 with a double. Outfielder Dusty Robinson and shortstop Daniel Robertson also doubled while each got rung up twice, and second baseman Chad Pinder whiffed 3 times on the night.

Outfielder B.J. Boyd had a big night for Beloit, singling, tripling, swiping a pair of bases and driving in 3 runs, including the go-ahead run in the top of the 9th inning for the Snappers. Fellow outfielder Herschel “Boog” Powell tripled, had a pair of singles and scored twice in the win. RHP Lou Trivino allowed 3 runs on 7 hits over 6 innings of work and left with the game tied. RHP Sam Bragg came in and tossed 3 scoreless innings in relief to earn his 2nd win for the Snappers.
