Sunday, September 14th: Clark Elliott & Brayan Buelvas Help Hounds Win Finale while Vegas Suffers Shutout Loss

Left fielder Clark Elliott and right fielder Brayan Buelvas helped the RockHounds register the win over Amarillo in their regular season finale on Sunday. Elliott stepped to the plate with one out and the base loaded in the 7th inning and slugged a grand slam to provide what would ultimately prove to be the margin of victory for Midland. He also drove in the RockHounds’ final run with a sacrifice fly in the 8th, and the 24-year-old outfielder went 8 for 17 with 5 home runs and 10 RBIs over the RockHounds’ final 4 games of the regular season. Buelvas singled and slugged a three-run homer to give Midland the lead in the 5th. He also drew a walk, was hit by a pitch and scored 3 runs in the game. First baseman Tommy White and second baseman Casey Yamauchi each singled twice, doubled and drove in a run, while shortstop Joshua Kuroda-Grauer singled, doubled, drew a walk and drove in a run for the RockHounds. Starter Corey Avant gave up 4 runs through 2 2/3 frames, while RHP Pedro Santos allowed 1 run in 1 1/3 innings of relief and recorded the win for the RockHounds. Midland is scheduled to begin its best-of-three Division Series against Amarillo on Tuesday.

Las Vegas suffered a shutout loss to Reno on Sunday. LHP Ken Waldichuk had a shaky start, surrendering 5 runs through 3 1/3 innings of work to take the loss. Second baseman Alejo Lopez went 2 for 3 with a walk, while first baseman Colby Halter singled and stole a base for Las Vegas in the loss.
