23-year-old Panamanian lefty James Gonzalez turned in an outstanding start to lead Lansing to a shutout win on opening night on Friday. Gonzalez allowed just 1 hit while walking none and striking out 6 through 5 scoreless frames to earn the win in the team’s road opener in Dayton. Gonzalez threw just 51 pitches, 40 for strikes, while RHP Mitch Myers threw 3 shutout innings, and LHP Colton Johnson tossed a scoreless frame in the bottom of the 9th to complete the 4-hit shutout and earn the save for Lansing. Designated hitter Cameron Masterman doubled twice and drove in Lansing’s only run, while second baseman Colby Halter walked twice and was hit by a pitch, and first baseman Will Simpson walked, stole a base and scored the Lugnuts’ lone run in the win. RHP Jose Dicochea is set to make the start for Lansing on Saturday.
