RHP Gus Varland turned in another outstanding start to lead Stockton to a six-hit shutout on Wednesday. Last year’s 14th-round draft pick for the A’s allowed 5 hits while walking none and striking out 6 over 7 shutout innings to earn the win, while RHP Seth Martinez tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief to complete the shutout for Stockton. Center fielder Jameson Hannah had a pair of hits, including a double, and drew a walk, while designated hitter Jonah Bride doubled and scored a run. Shortstop Jeremy Eierman singled and stole a base, and second baseman Nick Allen and catcher Jordan Devencenzi both singled in runs for Stockton. Meanwhile, outfielder Austin Beck was placed on the injured list and this year’s 15th-round draft pick for the A’s, outfielder Josh Watson, was reassigned to Stockton on Wednesday.

The Aviators put double digits on the board for the third night in a row to notch their third straight victory on Wednesday. Catcher Cameron Rupp singled, doubled, homered, drew a walk and drove in 3 runs, while designated hitter Chris Herrmann singled, homered, drew a walk and drove in a pair, and shortstop Jorge Mateo slugged a three-run homer for Las Vegas. Starter Parker Dunshee was charged with 5 runs over 4 1/3 frames, while RHP Miguel Romero tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief to earn the victory for Vegas. Meanwhile, RHP Daniel Mengden was recalled by the A’s and RHP J.B. Wendelken was sent back to the Aviators on Wednesday.

Second baseman Nick Ward singled, walked twice and slugged a three-run homer, while 18-year-old Colombian third baseman Jordan Diaz doubled twice and drove in a pair, and this year’s top draft pick for the A’s, designated hitter Logan Davidson, went 0 for 3 with a pair of walks in his professional debut. This year’s 2nd-round pick for the A’s, RHP Tyler Baum, made the start and pitched 2 perfect innings in his pro debut, while 23-year-old LHP Austin Briggs picked up the win despite allowing 3 runs, 1 earned, in 2 innings of relief, and 21-year-old Dominican RHP Jose Mora tossed 2 scoreless innings to secure his 2nd save for Vermont.

Last year’s 26th-round draft pick for the A’s, RHP Leudeny Pineda, made the start and allowed 2 runs, just 1 earned, while striking out 9 over 5 frames, but he left with the game a 2-2 tie, and 21-year-old Dominican RHP Manuel Manzanillo gave up the winning run in the bottom of the 8th to suffer the loss on Wednesday. This year’s 31st-round draft pick for the A’s, center fielder Matt Koehler, singled twice, walked and scored a run in the loss.
