MIDWEST LEAGUE (Class-A)
Beloit Snappers 2
Clinton LumberKings 0
WP: Charles 1-0 / 4.32
Prospect Of The Game:
Pitcher Daniel Martinez
(5 IP / 1 H / 0 ER / 0 BB / 5 K)
RHP Daniel Martinez turned in a stellar start to lead the Snappers to a shutout win on Wednesday. Last year’s 21st-round draft pick for the A’s pitched a perfect game until the 5th inning, when he surrendered a two-out double, but that would be the only baserunner he would allow through 5 scoreless frames. Martinez struck out 5 in the effort, but he exited with the game a scoreless tie. Designated hitter Logan Farrar doubled in a pair of runs in the 7th to provide the only scoring in the game. RHP Wandisson Charles tossed 2 scoreless innings to earn the win, while RHP Brandon Withers pitched a perfect 8th, and converted infielder Eric Marinez got the final three outs in the 9th to complete the two-hit shutout and notch his 3rd save for the Snappers. 20-year-old Cuban outfielder Lester Madden went 1 for 4 in his return from the injured list, while Beloit RHP Bryce Conley was reassigned to Vermont on Wednesday.

Las Vegas lost the opener of its five-game homestand versus El Paso on Wednesday. RHP Paul Blackburn had a rough start. He was charged with 8 runs in just 2 innings of work to suffer the loss for Las Vegas. Despite the poor pitching, the Aviators’ offense, which was averaging 8 runs per game heading into the contest, kept cruising right along. Catcher Sean Murphy collected 3 hits, including a pair of doubles, drew a walk and drove in 2 runs, and Murphy’s .397 batting average and .478 on-base percentage are both team bests. Third baseman Sheldon Neuse singled and slugged a three-run homer, while shortstop Jorge Mateo drew a walk and tripled in a run, and center fielder Dustin Fowler singled and doubled in the loss.
