For the second straight night, Las Vegas put 12 runs on the board, and the team cruised to its third straight victory over El Paso. And for the second straight night, left fielder Mark Payton had a big night at the plate for the Aviators. On Saturday, Payton, a minor league Rule 5 draftee, homered, doubled twice and drove in 4 runs to lead the attack. Designated hitter Dustin Fowler collected 3 hits, including a pair of doubles, and drove in a run, while right fielder Tyler Ramirez singled, drew a walk and doubled in a run, and Franklin Barreto, making his first regular-season appearance in center field, walked and homered in the win. Starter Paul Blackburn allowed 5 runs, 3 earned, and struck out 8 over 5 frames to earn the victory, while RHP Ryan Dull pitched 2 perfect innings, and RHP Andrew Triggs and LHP Jerry Blevins each tossed a scoreless inning in relief for the Aviators. Midland fell to Frisco for the second straight night on Saturday. Starter Parker Dunshee allowed 4 runs over 5 frames to suffer the loss. Center fielder Luis Barrera continued his hot hitting to start the season, slugging a two-run homer, slashing a triple and also drawing a walk, while first baseman Anthony Miller singled twice, and second baseman Nate Mondou doubled in the loss. The Ports suffered their second straight 4-3 loss to the Quakes on Saturday. RHP Brady Feigl turned in a solid start in his California League debut, allowing 2 runs, just 1 earned, and striking out 8 over 5 frames, and he left with the game a 2-2 tie. LHP Will Gilbert tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief, but RHP Seth Martinez surrendered a pair of solo shots in the late innings to suffer the loss for Stockton. Shortstop Nick Allen singled, drew a walk, doubled in a run and stole a base, while center fielder Austin Beck had a pair of hits, including a double, and swiped a base for Stockton. A big four-run 7th inning helped the Snappers secure their second straight win on Saturday. Third baseman Cobie Vance collected a pair of hits, including an RBI double, drew a walk and scored twice, while left fielder Lester Madden singled twice, walked and drove in a pair of runs. Center fielder Chase Calabuig walked twice and singled in a pair, and shortstop Marcos Brito doubled in a run for Beloit. Starter Bryce Conley allowed 2 runs over 4 frames, while RHP Jeferson Mejia gave up 3 runs in just 1/3 of an inning, but converted infielder Eric Marinez threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief to secure his first win on Saturday.
