19-year-old third baseman A.J. Kubala hit a grand slam in the 2nd inning to provide all the runs the A’s would need on Wednesday, but outfielder Justin Higley and second baseman Joe Bennie then followed with homers of their own to pile on in the 2nd. Starter Trey Barham struck out 5 in 2 scoreless innings of work, while RHP Ronald Herrera allowed just 1 unearned run and struck out 6 in 4 1/3 innings of relief to earn the win for the A’s.
