Starter Bruce Billings had a solid outing for Sacramento on Monday, allowing 3 runs, just 1 earned, on 4 hits while striking out 8 to earn his 3rd win. Designated hitter Grant Green had 2 hits, including a double, and drove in 2 runs. Center fielder Michael Choice also collected a pair of hits, and left fielder Scott Moore drove in a pair of runs. Shortstop Hiro Nakajima doubled and drove in a run, but his throwing error in the bottom of the 3rd inning led to 2 unearned runs.

Midland managed just 5 hits on Monday, 2 of them off the bat of third baseman Miles Head. Starter Zach Neal allowed 4 runs on 7 hits over 6 innings to take his 1st loss against 3 wins, while LHP Frank Gailey tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief to lower his ERA to 1.17.
CALIFORNIA LEAGUE (High-A)

The Ports lost their 6th straight on Monday. And RHP Deyvi Jimenez had another shaky outing, allowing 6 runs on 8 hits over just 3 1/3 innings to take his 2nd loss. RHPs David Mota, Seth Frankoff and T.J. Walz combined for 4 2/3 scoreless innings of relief, but the Ports couldn’t quite claw their way back. Catcher Phil Pohl doubled, walked, stole a base and scored twice, while third baseman B.A. Vollmuth and second baseman Wade Kirkland both doubled and drove in a run in the loss.
MIDWEST LEAGUE (Class-A)
Cedar Rapids Kernels 2
Beloit Snappers 3

Solid pitching and some timely hitting bailed the Snappers out in a tight game on Monday. Starter Derek De Young allowed 1 run in 5 innings of work but left the game with Beloit down 1-0. Third baseman Renato Nunez hit a 2-run homer in the bottom of the 7th inning to give the Snappers the lead. Cedar Rapids scored an unearned run in the top of the 8th with the help of an error by first baseman Chad Lewis to tie the game. Lewis then drove in the winning run with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th to hand the victory the RHP Vince Voiro, who had allowed just the 1 unearned run on 2 hits while striking out 5 over 4 innings of relief.
