WP – Alejo 4-3 / 4.03

HR – Nowlin (10)

Prospect Of The Game:

Pitcher Matt Milburn

(7 IP / 5 H / 2 ER / 1 BB / 5 K)

RHP Matt Milburn turned in another outstanding start to help the Snappers win their fifth straight. Last year’s 29th-round draft pick for the A’s allowed 2 runs on just 5 hits over 7 innings of work but left with the game a 2-2 tie on Monday. The 24-year-old has now compiled an impressive 1.85 ERA in 8 starts for the Snappers in the second half. RHP Joseph Camacho gave up the go-ahead run in the top of the 8th, but first baseman Kyle Nowlin belted a game-tying home run in the bottom of the 8th. And the game remained tied until the bottom of the 12th, when right fielder Mike Martin beat out a fielder’s choice with the bases loaded to bring home second baseman Trace Loehr as the Snappers won in a walk-off. RHP Yordys Alejo tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief to earn the win as Beloit notched its ninth victory in its last ten games on Monday.

Prospect Of The Game:

Pitcher Casey Meisner

(8 IP / 1 H / 0 ER / 1 BB / 7 K / Win)

RHP Casey Meisner turned in his best start of the season to help Stockton snap its three-game losing streak on Saturday. The 22-year-old was charged with 1 unearned run while allowing just 1 hit and striking out 7 over 8 innings of work to earn his 5th win, and he’s now failed to allow an earned run over his last 14 2/3 frames for the Ports. Last year’s 14th-round draft pick for the A’s, RHP Nolan Blackwood, got the final three outs in the 9th to notch his 8th save. First baseman Sandber Pimentel singled, doubled and drove in both Stockton runs, while center fielder Skye Bolt collected 3 hits, including a double, and catcher Sean Murphy and left fielder Tyler Ramirez had a pair of hits apiece for the Ports. Unfortunately, with Modesto’s win on Saturday, Stockton was officially eliminated from the first-half North Division playoff race.

Prospect Of The Game:

Second Baseman Max Schrock

(3 for 4 / 2 Home Runs)

Despite having his team fall for the fourth time in their last five games on Wednesday, second baseman Max Schrock had a big night at the plate for Midland. The 22-year-old prospect got off to a slow start in April but has been heating up in May, and the 5-foot-8 infielder muscled up to mash a pair of solo home runs in Wednesday’s contest for the Hounds. Schrock’s first round-tripper in the 4th inning gave the RockHounds the lead and, after falling to a two-run deficit, his second solo shot tied the game in the 6th. Just before Schrock’s second big fly, shortstop Yairo Munoz homered for the second time in the last two days to give the keystone combo back-to-back jacks. Munoz also doubled, stole third and scored a run on center fielder J.P. Sportman‘s RBI single in the 1st. Starter Brett Graves had a rare rough outing, allowing 4 runs on 9 hits over 5 frames, while RHP Ben Bracewell tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief and left with the game tied, but RHP Kyle Finnegan gave up a big 3-run homer in the bottom of the 8th to suffer his 1st loss for the Hounds.

Rehabbing starter Henderson Alvarez allowed 2 runs in 3 innings of work but had an unexpectedly early exit. After coming out to warm up for the 4th inning, he ended up leaving the field before the inning could begin after a visit from the trainer. RHP Aaron Kurcz stepped in and tossed 3 scoreless innings to earn his 3rd win, while RHP J.B. Wendelken got the final four outs to post his 5th save for the Sounds. Meanwhile, RHP Andrew Triggs was recalled by the A’s and Tyler Ladendorf was optioned back to Nashville on Saturday.

And Neal, who was originally slated to start the season in the Sounds bullpen, now has 4 wins to lead the staff. LHP Patrick Schuster tossed a scoreless 9th to notch his 2nd save. Designated hitter Andrew Lambo doubled in Nashville’s first run in the 4th inning, while catcher Bruce Maxwell singled in the Sounds’ second run in the 7th, and center fielder Jake Smolinski singled, walked and scored a run in the game. Meanwhile, Nashville RHP Andrew Triggs was recalled by the A’s for the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader and then optioned back to the Sounds after the doubleheader was through.

Right fielder Matt Olson socked his 3rd home run, a solo shot, in the 8th, while shortstop Chad Pinder singled in a run and drove in another with a sacrifice fly, and second baseman Joey Wendle singled, tripled and scored twice for the Sounds. Starter Chris Smith allowed 3 runs, just 1 earned, over 5 2/3 innings of work to earn his 1st win for Nashville. It’s expected that catcher/outfielder Matt McBride will be rejoining Nashville on Friday once LHP Sean Manaea is officially added to the A’s roster to make his major league debut Friday night against the Astros.
