Third baseman Stephen Parker, serving as the designated hitter for the day, had 2 hits, including a double, and drove in the River Cats’ only run. Infielder Luke Hughes and outfielder Jermaine Mitchell each doubled as well. Starter Fabio Castro has another rough outing, allowing 4 runs over 6 innings to run his record to 1-4. The River Cats rotation will be receiving some help with the promotion of starter A.J. Griffin from Midland. Outfielder Michael Choice drove in 2 runs, and catcher Ryan Lipkin doubled and drove in a run for the Rock Hounds. Starter Murphy Smith allowed 4 runs over 4 2/3 innings, and left-hander Sean Doolittle struck out all 3 batters he faced in 1 inning of work.

Worth Noting: Third baseman Josh Donaldson continued his hot hitting, going 3 for 4 and hitting a game-winning walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning for the River Cats. Outfielder Collin Cowgill hit his 2nd homer and his 5th double since joining the Cats, raising his batting average to .300. Starter Travis Banwart allowed 3 runs on 8 hits over 5 innings of work, and right-hander Andrew Carignan tossed 2 scoreless innings of relief for the win.

Second baseman Ryan Pineda doubled and scored Stockton’s only run in the 3rd.

Brandon Moss, playing first base, did his part, hitting a solo homer – his team-leading 5th – in the 2nd inning, and outfielder Jermaine Mitchell and catcher Derek Norris both contributed doubles in the River Cats cause. Meanwhile, former Athletics left-hander Josh Outman tossed a scoreless inning in relief for the Sky Sox.
