Thursday, April 9th: Samuel Dutton & Sam Stuhr Turn In Impressive Starts for Lansing & Stockton

Prospect Of The Day: Pitcher Samuel Dutton (5 IP/2 H/0 ER/1 BB/2 K)

 

MIDWEST LEAGUE  (HIGH-A)

Despite getting the top pitching performance of the day from RHP Samuel Dutton, Lansing wound up losing in a walk-off on Thursday. The 22-year-old Dutton, who was the A’s 10th-round draft pick last year, allowed just 2 hits and issued a single walk while throwing 5 scoreless frames, and he left the game with a one-run lead. Dutton threw just 65 pitches, 44 for strikes. LHP Tucker Novotny gave up the tying run in the 6th inning, and RHP Abel Mercedes surrendered the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the 9th to take the loss as Fort Wayne won in a walk-off. Third baseman Gunner Gouldsmith singled and walked, while first baseman Carlos Franco singled and drove in Lansing’s sole run with a sacrifice fly in the top of the 1st.

Las Vegas was shut out on just four hits by Sacramento on Thursday. Starter Joey Estes allowed 5 runs through 4 frames to suffer the loss for Las Vegas. Third baseman Michael Stefanic doubled, while catcher Chad Wallach, first baseman Joey Meneses and shortstop Euribiel Angeles each singled to account for all the Aviators’ hits in the loss.

TEXAS LEAGUE  (DOUBLE-A)

The RockHounds recorded their fifth win in six games this season on Thursday. Right fielder Jared Dickey went 2 for 3, drew a walk and drove in both the tying and winning runs in the top of the 8th inning, while first baseman Tommy White singled, doubled and drove in 3. Catcher Shane McGuire singled, walked, was hit by a pitch and scored a run, and shortstop Leo De Vries singled, walked, stole a base and scored a pair of runs for the RockHounds. LHP Jamie Arnold, last year’s top draft pick for the A’s, allowed 4 runs, 3 earned, on 8 hits and 1 walk while notching 7 strikeouts through 4 2/3 frames in his second start for Midland. RHP Jared Johnson picked up the win despite giving up 2 runs in 1 inning of relief, and RHP Stevie Emanuels tossed 2 scoreless innings to secure the save for the RockHounds.

RHP Sam Stuhr turned in a strong start to help Stockton snap its three-game losing streak on Thursday. The 23-year-old Stuhr, who was the A’s 5th-round pick in 2024, allowed 1 run on just 2 hits through 5 frames to pick up the win for the Ports. Left fielder Max Durrington singled twice, walked, drove in a run and stole a base, while first baseman Cesar Gonzalez doubled, drew a walk, drove in 2 runs and was hit by a pitch. Second baseman Michael Brooks singled, walked twice and drove in a pair, and shortstop Ali Camarillo doubled, was hit by a pitch and scored a run for the Ports.
