Thursday, April 2nd: Rodney Green Homers Twice in Lansing Loss while Joey Meneses Gives Vegas Walk-Off Win

Right fielder Rodney Green had a big day at the plate, but it wasn’t enough to keep Lansing from suffering the loss on opening night on Thursday. Green, who was the A’s 4th-round pick in 2024, drilled a double and pounded a pair of home runs, a two-run blast in the 4th inning to give Lansing the lead and then added and a solo shot in the 5th. First baseman Dylan Fien singled, homered and drove in a pair in his Midwest League debut, while left fielder Devin Taylor singled and walked twice, and designated hitter Nate Nankil singled, drew a walk and drove in a run for the Lugnuts. Starter Steven Echavarria allowed 2 runs over 4 2/3 frames and left with Lansing holding a two-run lead, but RHP Samuel Dutton surrendered 6 runs over 4 frames to suffer the loss for the Lugnuts. RHP Zane Taylor is set to make the start for Lansing on Friday.

First baseman Joey Meneses led Las Vegas to a walk-off victory on Thursday. Meneses went 3 for 4 in the game and hit a two-run homer with the game tied in the bottom of the 9th to give Vegas the victory. Shortstop Drew Swift singled and walked twice, while right fielder Colby Thomas collected a pair of singles and drove in a pair of runs for the Aviators. Starter Kade Morris allowed 2 runs through 5 1/3 frames, while RHP Yunior Tur tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief, and RHP Nick Anderson pitched 2 perfect innings to pick up the victory for the Aviators. RHP Joey Estes is set to make the start for Las Vegas on Friday.

Five Midland hurlers managed to hold Arkansas hitters to just one run to record the win on opening-night on Thursday. 20-year-old Taiwanese LHP Wei-En Lin made the start and looked dominant through the first three frames but struggled in the top of the 4th. He exited after getting one out and ended up allowing 1 run on 3 hits and 2 walks while notching 6 strikeouts through 3 1/3 innings of work. Lin threw a total of 67 pitches, 43 for strikes. RHP Blaze Pontes, LHP CD Pelham, RHP Stevie Emanuels and LHP Domingo Robles then combined to throw 5 2/3 scoreless innings of relief to close out the victory, with Pontes picking up the win. Designated hitter Brayan Buelvas went 2 for 4 with a 4th-inning home run, while first baseman Colby Halter doubled and drew a pair of walks. Catcher Shane McGuire singled, doubled and drove in a run, and center fielder Ryan Lasko doubled, drew a walk and scored a run for the RockHounds. LHP Jamie Arnold is set to make his pro debut when he makes the start for Midland on Friday.

Ports pitchers surrendered twelve runs as Stockton suffered an opening-night loss on Thursday. Starter Nathan Dettmer allowed 2 runs in 3 innings of work to take the loss, while RHP Josiah Romeo gave up 3 runs through 3 frames, and LHP Jackson Phipps, the A’s 16th-round pick last year, surrendered 6 runs in just 1 1/3 innings. 18-year-old Venezuelan left fielder Breyson Guedez singled, doubled, drew a walk and drove in 3 runs in his California League debut, while second baseman Max Durrington singled, drew a pair of walks and drove in a run, and third baseman Daniel Bucciero and designated hitter Bryan Andrade had a pair of hits apiece for the Ports. LHP Grant Richardson is set to make his pro debut when he makes the start for Stockton on Friday.
