Midland managed to clinch its best-of-three divisional playoff series against Amarillo on Thursday. Center fielder Nate Nankil singled twice, drove in the RockHounds’ first run in the 2nd inning and scored the winning run in the 4th, while shortstop Leo De Vries collected 3 hits and drove in a run. Second baseman Sahid Valenzuela went 2 for 4 with a triple, and left fielder Clark Elliott drew a pair of walks, including a bases-loaded walk in the 4th to bring home the winning run for the RockHounds. Starter Braden Nett issued 5 walks while striking out 8 but held Amarillo to just 1 run through 4 1/3 frames, while RHP Yorlin Calderon tossed a scoreless inning in relief to record the win, and LHP Will Johnston notched the final four outs to secure the save for the Hounds. Midland is set to begin play in the Texas League Championship Series on Sunday.

Las Vegas suffered its second straight loss to Salt Lake on Thursday. RHP Kade Morris turned in a strong start, allowing just 1 run and striking out 7 through 6 innings of work and left the game with the lead, but RHP Tyler Baum was charged with 3 runs in 1/3 of an inning of relief and LHP Jared Shuster gave up 2 runs, 1 earned, in 2/3 of an inning to take the loss for Las Vegas. Catcher Bryan Lavastida homered and drove in a pair of runs, while designated hitter Nick Martini singled, doubled and scored twice, and left fielder Cooper Bowman doubled and drove in a pair in the loss.
