Las Vegas suffered a six-hit shutout loss to Sacramento on Saturday, but RHP Gunnar Hoglund turned in a strong start for the Aviators. The 25-year-old former 1st-round pick of the Blue Jays allowed 2 runs on 4 hits while walking just 1 and striking out 5 in 6 innings of work, but he still ended up being saddled with the loss. Hoglund showed great command, throwing a total of 78 pitches, 53 of them for strikes. RHP Tanner Dodson followed him on the mound and tossed 1 scoreless frame, while LHP Hogan Harris notched 4 strikeouts while pitching 2 perfect innings in relief. Right fielder Colby Thomas and designated hitter Logan Davidson each collected a pair of hits, and first baseman Nick Kurtz doubled for Las Vegas in the loss. LHP Jacob Lopez is set to make the start for the Aviators on Sunday.

After being shut out on Friday, the Lugnuts scored one run on just three hits to suffer their second straight loss to the TinCaps on Saturday. 19-year-old RHP Steven Echavarria made the start for Lansing and allowed 2 runs on 3 hits and 3 walks while striking out 3 through 2 2/3 innings of work to take the loss, throwing 63 pitches in the process, just 35 for strikes. RHP Tom Reisinger tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief, but LHP Garrett Irvin gave up 2 runs in just 1 inning of work. Catcher Cole Conn went 1 for 3 with a walk and scored the Lugnuts’ sole run in the loss, while left fielder Clark Elliott and right fielder Jared Dickey both singled to account for Lansing’s offensive output for the day. Stockton suffered its second straight one-run loss to Fresno on Saturday. Last year’s 17th-round draft pick for the A’s, RHP Aidan Layton, made the start for Stockton and allowed 2 runs in 4 1/3 frames to take the loss, but 19-year-old Taiwanese LHP Wei-En Lin looked impressive in his debut, notching 7 strikeouts while pitching 3 perfect innings for the Ports. Last year’s 9th-round pick for the A’s, second baseman Jared Sprague-Lott, slugged a solo shot in the 4th to provide Stockton’s sole run, while shortstop Ali Camarillo singled and doubled, and center fielder Pedro Pineda tripled for the Ports in the loss.
