RHP J.T. Ginn turned in an excellent start to lead Las Vegas to an opening-night victory on Friday. Ginn struck out 8 while allowing just 1 hit and 1 walk through 5 scoreless innings to earn the win for the Aviators. The righty threw 69 pitches, 44 for strikes. RHP Jake Walkinshaw gave up 1 run in 2 innings of relief, while RHP Grant Holman tossed a scoreless frame in the top of the 8th, and RHP Elvis Alvarado gave up a solo homer to Reno first baseman Trey Mancini with two outs in the top of the 9th before recording the final out to secure the save for Las Vegas. Shortstop Darell Hernaiz slugged a solo shot with two outs in the bottom of the 1st to give the Aviators an early lead, and he also singled and walked in the game. Right fielder Colby Thomas, who led all minor leaguers in extra-base hits last season, slugged a solo shot of his own in the 8th, while catcher Daniel Susac collected 2 hits, including a double. First baseman Nick Kurtz doubled and drew a walk, and center fielder Denzel Clarke singled, walked, stole a base and scored a run to help Las Vegas claim the victory on Friday.
