RHP Mason Miller was nearly perfect through 5 frames to help lead Las Vegas to victory on Friday. The 24-year-old, who was promoted to Triple-A on Tuesday after striking out 8 in his season debut for Double-A Midland last week, notched 11 strikeouts while walking none and throwing 5 scoreless and hitless frames to earn the victory for Las Vegas. The only runner to reach base against the hard-throwing righty came on a swinging strikeout on a wild pitch with two outs in the 5th inning. Miller threw a total of 64 pitches, 43 for strikes, hitting 100 mph or better 23 times while facing just 16 batters in his 5 innings of work on Friday. RHPs Miguel Romero, Rico Garcia and Norge Ruiz combined to give up 4 runs in relief for the Aviators. Meanwhile, right fielder Cody Thomas had a big night at the plate. The 28-year-old hit a pair of home runs, belting a three-run blast with two outs in the bottom of the 5th, then slugging a grand slam with two outs in the 8th, and he now leads the squad with 6 home runs and 19 RBIs through the team’s first 13 games. Designated hitter Dermis Garcia slugged a solo shot and was hit by a pair of pitches, while left fielder Trenton Brooks drilled a pair of doubles and drove in 3. Second baseman Zack Gelof singled, walked twice and stole a base, and third baseman Jonah Bride reached base 5 times, on a single and 4 walks. In other news, LHP Hogan Harris and infielder Tyler Wade were promoted to Oakland, while shortstop Nick Allen and RHP Adam Oller were optioned to the Aviators, and RHP Spencer Patton was added to the Las Vegas roster. RHP Jack Cushing was reassigned to the RockHounds, while RHP Parker Dunshee was released, and outfielder Cal Stevenson was designated for assignment.
