Lansing shut out Beloit on seven hits to take the opening match of their six-game series on Tuesday. 24-year-old LHP Mac Lardner, who was signed as a minor league free agent, made the start and threw 6 scoreless innings, allowing 4 hits and just 1 walk while striking out 5, to claim the victory and lower his ERA for the Lugnuts to 3.62. RHP Joe DeMers tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief, and RHP Charles Hall pitched a perfect 9th to complete the shutout for Lansing. Last year’s 4th-round draft pick for the A’s, center fielder Denzel Clarke, who was recently promoted from Stockton, tagged a two-run homer, doubled and scored a run and drove in another run with a sacrifice fly, while left fielder Gabriel Maciel singled twice, doubled and drove in 3 runs, and shortstop Drew Swift singled in a run, walked and swiped a pair of bases to increase his team-leading total to 10.
