The opening day 30-man roster for the A’s Low-A affiliate Stockton Ports was announced on Tuesday. The team includes 15 pitchers and 15 position players and will be guided by new manager Franklin Font, who formerly served as a coach for the Chicago Cubs.
The roster is headlined by the A’s top pick in last year’s draft, 19-year-old shortstop Max Muncy, who is Oakland’s 6th-ranked prospect according to MLB Pipeline. But he won’t be the only teenage infielder on the team. 19-year-old Dominican shortstop Robert Puason, who was the A’s top international signing in 2019, will be returning for his second season in Stockton. And 2019’s 5th-round pick for the A’s, 20-year-old shortstop Jalen Greer, will also be on the squad. Expect all three players to see time at multiple positions around the infield for the Ports.
Other prominent position players on the team include the A’s 12th-ranked prospect, 18-year-old Dominican outfielder Pedro Pineda, who will be the youngest player on the squad, last year’s 4th-round draft pick for the A’s, 21-year-old outfielder Denzel Clarke, along with last year’s 5th-round pick, right-handed hitting catcher CJ Rodriguez and last year’s 9th-round pick, left-handed hitting catcher Shane McGuire.
Some of the more notable names on this year’s pitching staff in Stockton include the A’s 2nd-round draft pick in 2019, 24-year-old right-handed pitcher Tyler Baum, 2016’s 4th-round pick, 24-year-old righty Skylar Szynski, who’s only thrown 31 2/3 innings in his pro career since being drafted due to Tommy John surgery and other injury issues, as well as 2018’s 10th-round pick, 25-year-old right-hander Clark Cota, who will be the oldest player on the squad.
Stockton’s season is set to open on Friday, April 8. You can find the team’s complete opening day roster here… Stockton Ports
