A seven-run 2nd inning put the RockHounds in an early hole that they were unable to climb out of as they suffered the loss in Game #5 of their Texas League playoff series and saw their season come to an end on Sunday. The RockHounds recorded the win in the first two games of the best-of-five series on the road in Amarillo before losing the next two games at home in Midland, forcing the decisive contest in Midland on Sunday. RHP James Naile made the start and tossed a scoreless 1st inning before being charged with 6 runs, 5 earned, and exiting without recording an out in the top of the 2nd inning to take the loss. LHP Tyler Alexander allowed 1 run in 3 innings or relief, while Seth Martinez, Zack Erwin and Jesus Zambrano combined to throw 5 scoreless frames for Midland. Catcher Collin Theorux singled and scored a run in the RockHounds’ four-run 5th inning and then slugged a solo shot in the 6th, while designated hitter Tyler Ramirez had a pair of hits, including a double, drew a walk and drove in a run, and second baseman Nate Mondou singled, doubled and drove in a run for the RockHounds in the loss. Midland finished the regular season with a record of 73-66.

A four-run 1st inning sent the Aviators down to defeat in Game #5 of their PCL playoff series as their season came to an end on Sunday. RHP James Kaprielian made the start and surrendered 4 runs on 3 home runs before exiting with two outs in the top of the 1st inning to suffer the loss for Las Vegas. RHP Tanner Anderson was solid in relief, throwing 3 1/3 scoreless frames, while RHP Matt Harvey gave up 3 runs in 2 innings of relief, and RHPs Trey McNutt and Ben Bracewell combined to throw 3 scoreless innings for the Aviators. The Las Vegas lineup managed just four hits in the loss. Catcher Jonah Heim homered in the bottom of the 5th inning to put Las Vegas on the board, while first baseman Dustin Garneau and designated hitter Cameron Rupp both doubled in runs in the 6th to complete the Aviators’ scoring on the night. Las Vegas finished the regular season with a record of 83-57.
