Third baseman Taylor Motter helped the RockHounds record their third straight win on Friday. Motter mashed a pair of home runs, tagging a two-run homer in the top of the 4th inning to break a 1-1 tie and then adding a solo shot in the 6th to help give the Hounds a lead that the Hooks couldn’t surmount. Left fielder Tyler Ramirez hit a game-tying home run in the 2nd, while designated hitter Chase Calabuig singled twice and drove in a run in the 8th for the RockHounds. RHP Matt Milburn turned in a quality start, allowing just 1 run over 6 innings of work to earn the win for Midland. Meanwhile, LHP Tyler Alexander, who posted an ERA of 6.72 over 21 appearances for Triple-A Las Vegas this season, was reassigned to the RockHounds on Friday.

Third Baseman Eric Campbell

The Aviators came back to win in extra innings on Friday. Second baseman Trace Loehr may have had the big hit in the game, but third baseman Eric Campbell had the best performance of the night, reaching base 4 times and driving in 4 runs while repeatedly putting Las Vegas back in the game on Friday. With the Aviators down by two runs in the 6th inning, Campbell drove in a run to bring his team back within a single run. Then, with Las Vegas once again down by two runs in the 8th, Campbell clubbed a two-run homer to tie the game. And with the Aviators down by a run and two outs in the bottom of the 9th, Campbell came through with an RBI single to bring home the tying run and send the game to extra innings. Then, in his Triple-A debut, 24-year-old Trace Loehr, who was just promoted from Stockton on Thursday, slugged a three-run homer in the bottom of the 10th as Las Vegas won in a walk-off on Friday. Second baseman Corban Joseph singled, doubled and homered, while center fielder Dustin Fowler hit his 23rd home run in the 3rd inning. First baseman Seth Brown belted his team-best 28th home run in the 6th, and right fielder Skye Bolt doubled and drew a walk in his return from the injured list on Friday. Starter Parker Dunshee allowed 3 runs, 2 earned, over 4 2/3 frames, while RHP Jharel Cotton gave up 3 runs in 1 1/3 innings of relief. LHP A.J. Puk permitted 1 run on 1 hit, a home run, and struck out 3 in 2 innings of work, while RHP J.B. Wendelken was charged with 1 unearned run in the top of the 10th and picked up the victory for Vegas. Meanwhile, RHP Daniel Mengden and infielder Franklin Barreto were both optioned back to the Aviators, and Las Vegas LHP Tyler Alexander was reassigned to the RockHounds on Friday.

Stockton fell for the fifth straight time on Friday. After looking very solid over the first three months of the season, RHP Brady Feigl ended up struggling through much of July. He turned in another shaky start on Friday and wound up being charged with 6 runs over 5 frames to suffer the loss for Stockton. Designated hitter Austin Beck doubled twice and drove in Stockton’s sole run in the loss.

The Snappers suffered their second straight loss to Cedar Rapids on Friday. 21-year-old Cuban RHP Richard Guasch turned in a solid start, striking out 7 while throwing 4 scoreless frames for the Snappers. RHP Joe DeMers allowed 1 run in 4 innings of relief, and RHP Brandon Withers gave up 2 runs in the top of the 9th to take the loss. Left fielder Anthony Churlin had 3 hits, including a double, and drove in a run, while second baseman Joseph Pena singled twice and scored twice for the Snappers in the loss.

Vermont notched its third victory in its last four games on Friday. This year’s top draft pick for the A’s, shortstop Logan Davidson, singled, doubled, drew a walk, stole a base and scored 3 runs, and the 21-year-old has now gone 7 for 20 with 7 walks and 4 extra-base hits over his last 6 games for the Lake Monsters. Third baseman Marty Bechina had a pair of hits, including a double, drove in a run and scored twice, while center fielder Kevin Richards singled in the tying and winning runs in the top of the 7th for Vermont. This year’s 2nd-round draft pick, RHP Tyler Baum, made the start and gave up 3 runs in 3 innings of work, while this year’s 9th-round pick, RHP Colin Peluse, picked up the win despite allowing 3 runs, 2 earned, in 3 innings of relief, and RHP Jose Mora pitched a perfect 9th to notch the save for the Lake Monsters.

The AZL A’s Green squad suffered a one-run loss on Friday. 19-year-old Cuban RHP Pedro Santos made the start and gave up 3 runs in 2 innings of work, but 21-year-old Dominican LHP Livan Sanchez was outstanding in relief, allowing just 1 hit while walking none and striking out 6 over 4 frames for the A’s. RHP Dominic Yearego was charged with 2 unearned runs in the bottom of the 9th to take the loss as the Mariners won in a walk-off. First baseman Dustin Harris singled, doubled, drew a walk and drove in a run, while right fielder Jorge Romero ripped a two-run homer, and second baseman Givaine Basilia slugged a solo shot in the loss.

21-year-old Italian catcher Cesarre Astorri singled, tripled, drew a walk and drove in 4 runs to help the AZL A’s Gold squad win on Friday. Shortstop Elvis Peralta doubled twice, scored twice and drew a walk, while center fielder Marcus Smith had 3 hits, including a double, and drove in a run. RHP Trayson Kubo made the start and threw 3 scoreless and hitless innings and struck out 5, while RHP Austin Wahl allowed 1 unearned run in 2 innings of relief and picked up the win for the A’s.
