LP: T.Anderson 3-3 / 6.11
HR: Payton (9)
Prospect Of The Game:
Outfielder Mark Payton
(2 for 4 / Grand Slam)
Four 8th-inning runs weren’t enough to keep Las Vegas from suffering a loss at the hands of Tacoma on Sunday. With RHP Edwin Jackson heading to Toronto and RHP Daniel Mengden heading to Oakland, RHP Tanner Anderson returned from the bullpen to make the start for the Aviators. And the 25-year-old surrendered 5 runs over 4 frames to take the loss for Las Vegas. Left fielder Mark Payton stepped to the plate with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 8th and slugged a grand slam, but it wasn’t enough to allow Las Vegas to prevail on Sunday. Payton raised his RBI total to a team-leading 34. He also singled in the game, while right fielder Skye Bolt tripled and walked. Catcher Beau Taylor singled in a run and drew a walk to raise his team-best on-base percentage to .495, while first baseman Seth Brown doubled and scored a run, and designated hitter Nick Martini went 0 for 3 but drew a pair of walks in his third rehab game with the Aviators. And with Mengden joining the A’s, RHP J.B. Wendelken was sent to Las Vegas on Sunday, and RockHounds RHP Parker Dunshee is set to join the team’s starting rotation this week.
