After dropping six in a row, Stockton won its second straight on Friday, and the A’s top draft pick from 2017 led the way. Austin Beck doubled in a run in the top of the 1st inning to provide the Ports with an early lead. The 20-year-old then clubbed his first California League homer, slugging a three-run shot in the 5th to give Stockton an edge that Modesto wouldn’t be able to surmount. RHP Wyatt Marks turned in an outstanding start, allowing just 3 hits while throwing 5 shutout frames to post the win for the Ports, but RHP Joel Seddon, who was added to Stockton’s roster earlier in the day, surrendered 2 runs in 1 inning of relief. Meanwhile, RHP Trey Cochran-Gill was promoted from the Ports to the RockHounds on Friday.

After letting an early lead slip away, Las Vegas came back to win its fifth straight on Friday to run the Aviators’ record to 8-1 this season. Designated hitter Corban Joseph singled in a run in the 3rd and then doubled in the tying run and came around to score the winning run in the bottom of the 8th. Third baseman Eric Campbell tagged a two-run homer, while left fielder Mark Payton and catcher Beau Taylor both slugged solo shots, and first baseman Seth Brown belted 2 doubles and drove in a pair of runs for Las Vegas. Starter Tyler Alexander allowed 2 runs over 5 frames, while LHP Wei-Chung Wang picked up the victory despite giving up 1 run in 2 innings of relief for Vegas. In other news, RHP Andrew Triggs was placed on the injured list, while RHP Joel Seddon was sent to Stockton, and RHP Ben Bracewell was reassigned from the RockHounds to the Aviators on Friday.

The RockHounds came up a run short on Friday, but third baseman Edwin Diaz had a big night at the plate for Midland. The 23-year-old collected 3 hits, including a home run and a double, while also drawing a walk and driving in a pair of runs for the RockHounds. Shortstop Kevin Merrell tripled, singled twice and drove in a pair, while center fielder Dairon Blanco had 3 hits, drove in a run and scored twice. Right fielder Greg Deichmann singled twice and drew a walk, and catcher Jonah Heim collected a pair of doubles for Midland. RHP Grant Holmes had a rough start for the RockHounds, giving up 5 runs in just 2 2/3 innings to suffer the loss for Midland. Meanwhile, RockHounds RHP Ben Bracewell was reassigned to the Aviators, and RHP Trey Cochran-Gill was promoted from the Ports to Midland on Friday.

The Snappers surrendered an early lead to lose their third straight on Friday. Starter Aiden McIntyre struck out 7 and allowed 1 run in 3 1/3 innings of work, while his tandem-pitching partner, RHP Daniel Martinez, gave up 4 runs, 3 earned, over 3 2/3 frames. Converted infielder Eric Marinez struck out the side in a scoreless 8th, but RHP Calvin Coker surrendered 3 runs in the top of the 9th to suffer the loss for the Snappers. Second baseman Ryan Gridley had a pair of hits, including a double, drew a walk and drove in a run, while left fielder Lester Madden singled, doubled and drove in a run in the loss.

  1. Mark Payton, doing all he can for a call up, is he the next muncy. Never had more than 6hr in a season, but hes tearing cover off
