After tying up the best-of-five playoff series at a game apiece on Thursday, the Ports were not able to prevail against Visalia on Friday. Starter Kyle Friedrichs surrendered 8 runs over 5 1/3 frames to suffer the loss for Stockton. Designated hitter Sandber Pimentel, who led the team with 15 home runs in just 68 games, had 2 hits, including a two-run homer to put the Ports on the board in the top of the 5th. Second baseman Trace Loehr singled twice and scored a run, while shortstop Kevin Merrell and third baseman Edwin Diaz each singled and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly for Stockton. Meanwhile, outfielder Greg Deichmann was placed on the disabled list with a hamate bone injury and this year’s 4th-round draft pick for the A’s, first baseman/outfielder Alfonso Rivas, was promoted to the Ports from Vermont on Friday.

After going down to defeat in the first game of the best-of-three series in Beloit on Thursday, on Friday, the series moved to Cedar Rapids, where the Snappers were shut out on just six hits to see their playoff series with the Kernels, and their season, come to an end. Snappers starter Ivan Andueza surrendered 1 run in just 2 1/3 innings of work to suffer the loss, while LHP Ty Damron gave up 2 runs in 1 1/3 innings of relief, and RHP Nick Highberger allowed 1 run over 1 1/3 innings for Beloit. Left fielder Lazaro Armenteros singled and walked, while Jack Meggs, Logan Farrar, Hunter Hargrove, Mickey McDonald and Jordan Devencenzi all singled for the Snappers in the loss.
