Shortstop Ryan Gridley continued his hot hitting to help Beloit best Peoria on Saturday. Last year’s 11th-round draft pick for the A’s singled twice, drew a walk and, with his team down by three, tagged a two-run homer in the top of the 5th inning to bring Beloit back within a run. Gridley has now gone 16 for 32 to post a batting average of .500 over his past 10 games for the Snappers. Second baseman Jesus Lage, who returned from the disabled list on Saturday, and center fielder Austin Beck both walked with the bases loaded to bring home runs for Beloit. Starter Jared Poche allowed 3 runs over 6 innings of work to earn his 8th win, while RHP Nick Highberger threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief to post his 5th save for the Snappers. Meanwhile, Beloit LHP Jhenderson Hurtado landed on the disabled list with a lat strain on Saturday.

The Sounds suffered a walk-off loss to see their playoff hopes officially come to an end on Saturday. RHP Frankie Montas turned in a solid start, allowing just 1 run and striking out 5 over 5 frames. But RHP Liam Hendriks, who’d failed to allow a run in his last 14 appearances, gave up 2 runs, 1 earned, in the bottom of the 9th to take the loss as Memphis won in a walk-off to clinch the American Southern Division title on Saturday. Shortstop Jorge Mateo, designated hitter Anthony Garcia and rehabbing left fielder Matt Joyce had a pair of hits apiece for the Sounds in the loss.

The RockHounds registered their third straight win on Saturday. RHP James Naile recorded an outstanding start, allowing just 1 run and striking out 5 over 7 innings of work, but he left with the game a 1-1 tie. Center fielder Skye Bolt homered for the second straight night to tie the game in the 6th inning, while third baseman Eric Marinez raced home on a wild pitch in the top of the 10th to provide the winning run for the RockHounds. RHP Corey Walter pitched 2 perfect innings in relief to earn the win, while RHP Miguel Romero got the final three outs to secure the save for Midland.

Stockton was shut out on just two hits to suffer its second straight loss to Visalia on Saturday. Starter Zack Erwin allowed 5 runs over 5 2/3 frames to take his 10th loss, while designated hitter Sandber Pimentel and second baseman Trace Loehr both singled to provide the Ports’ only hits in the loss.

Vermont was victorious in 10 innings on Saturday. RHP Adam Reuss turned in a strong start for the Lake Monsters, allowing just 1 over 6 innings of work, but RHP Bryce Nightengale gave up 2 runs in 2 innings of relief. Third baseman Jonah Bride had 3 hits, drew a walk and drove in a run, while left fielder Joseph Pena doubled and drove in a pair. Second baseman Max Schuemann singled twice and stole a base, and shortstop Jeremy Eierman drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly in the top of the 10th for the Lake Monsters. RHP Jaimito Lebron tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief to pick up the victory for Vermont.

This year’s 22nd-round draft pick for the A’s, RHP Aiden McIntyre, made the start on Saturday and was solid, allowing just 2 hits and striking out 5 over 4 scoreless frames. And the 22-year-old has now tossed 10 scoreless innings and struck out 16 over his last 3 appearances for the A’s. But 26th-round RHP Leudeny Pineda gave up 3 runs in 1 1/3 innings of relief to suffer the loss. 18-year-old Colombian third baseman Jordan Diaz had 3 hits, including a double, and drove in a run, while RockHounds catcher Sean Murphy went 1 for 3 with a double in his second rehab appearance with the A’s.
