RHP Daniel Mengden turned in his third straight quality start for the Sounds on Thursday. Mengden struck out 6 over 6 shutout innings, and the 25-year-old has now compiled a 1.89 ERA over his last 3 starts for Nashville. He exited after 6 innings with the game a scoreless tie, but RHP Chris Hatcher allowed 3 runs, 1 earned, in the 7th to suffer the loss in his first appearance for the Sounds. Shortstop Jorge Mateo collected a pair of doubles, while third baseman Sheldon Neuse had 2 hits, including a double. Catcher Beau Taylor singled twice, and center fielder Boog Powell singled and walked twice for the Sounds in the loss. Meanwhile, Nashville RHP J.B. Wendelken was activated from the disabled list, while infielder Melvin Mercedes was placed on the disabled list on Thursday.

The RockHounds notched their third win in their last four games on Thursday. Center fielder Luis Barrera reached base 4 times, on 3 hits and a walk, while also driving in a run, and the 22-year-old is now slashing .372/.413/.419 during the month of August. Designated hitter Skye Bolt had 3 singles and drove in a run, while left fielder Tyler Ramirez singled, walked and drove in a run for the RockHounds. Starter Sam Bragg threw 4 shutout frames, while RHP Nolan Blackwood tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief to earn the win, and RHP Kyle Finnegan got the final two outs to notch his 9th save for Midland.

Stockton had its three-game winning streak snapped on Thursday. Left fielder Brett Siddall singled, walked, and homered in the 2nd inning to briefly give Stockton the lead. Center fielder Greg Deichmann homered for the second straight night, slugging a solo shot in the 8th, while right fielder Chase Calabuig had 3 hits, including a double, and drew a walk. First baseman Luke Persico tripled with the bases loaded to drive in 3 runs in the 7th, and second baseman Brallan Perez went 1 for 5 in his return from the disabled list. Starter Matt Milburn surrendered 7 runs over 5 frames to suffer his 5th loss, while infielder Eric Marinez allowed 1 run and struck out a pair in the 6th, and RHP Jake Bray pitched a perfect 7th in his return from the disabled list for the Ports. Meanwhile, Stockton infielder Trace Loehr landed on the disabled list on Thursday.

The Lake Monsters lost their fifth straight on Thursday. This year’s 28th-round draft pick for the A’s, RHP Reid Birlingmair, made the start and allowed just 1 hit over 4 shutout frames, while 19-year-old Panamanian RHP Abdiel Mendoza threw 3 scoreless innings in relief, and 21-year-old Dominican RHP Jaimito Lebron tossed 2 shutout frames to carry the scoreless tie into extra innings. 21-year-old right fielder Nick Osborne doubled in the first run of the game in the top of the 10th for Vermont, but this year’s 7th-round pick, RHP Charlie Cerny, was charged with 2 unearned runs in the bottom of the 10th to take the loss for the Lake Monsters.

19-year-old Dominican RHP Ismael Aquino made the start on Thursday and threw 3 scoreless frames, while this year’s 31st-round draft pick for the A’s, RHP Alex Pantuso, struck out 5 while pitching 3 perfect innings, but 21-year-old Venezuelan RHP Jesus Monserratt was charged with 3 runs in 1 1/3 innings of relief to suffer the loss for the A’s. This year’s 34th-round pick, second baseman Nick Ward, walked twice and tripled in a run in the loss.
