RHP Wyatt Marks turned in one of his best starts of the season to lead Beloit to a shutout victory over Burlington on Saturday. Marks allowed just 2 hits and struck out 10 while throwing 7 shutout innings to earn his 5th win for the Snappers. The 23-year-old has allowed just 1 earned run in 19 innings over has last 3 starts, and his 127 strikeouts on the season are tops in the Midwest League. RHP Jaimito Lebron tossed a scoreless 8th, and RHP Jesus Zambrano struck out the side in order in the 9th to complete the two-hit shutout, secure his 4th save for the Snappers and extend his scoreless streak to 18 2/3 innings. Beloit batters managed just two hits themselves in the winning cause. First baseman Jack Meggs singled to lead off the 3rd inning, stole second base and then came around to score on second baseman Ryan Gridley‘s RBI single for the Snappers.

The Sounds suffered their fourth straight loss on Saturday. RHP James Naile struggled through a shaky start, surrendering 8 runs in just 2 1/3 innings of work to take his 10th loss for the Sounds. Right fielder Ramon Laureano continued his hot hitting, hammering his 13th home run in just his 61st game of the season while also adding a single and a walk, and the 24-year-old is now 16 for 32 with 4 home runs over his last 8 games. Third baseman Sheldon Neuse singled, tripled, drew a walk and drove in a pair, and second baseman Franklin Barreto doubled, walked twice and stole a base for the Sounds.

A late-game comeback allowed Corpus Christi to snap the RockHounds’ four-game winning streak on Saturday. Shortstop Richie Martin walked, homered and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, while second baseman Eli White collected 3 hits, and first baseman Seth Brown singled, doubled, drew a walk and drove in a run for the RockHounds. Starter Logan Shore allowed 2 runs over 4 2/3 frames, while RHP John Gorman pitched 2 1/3 perfect innings in relief and left the game after the 7th with Midland holding a three-run lead. But Cody Stull was charged with 2 runs in the 8th, and RHP Nolan Blackwood gave up 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th to suffer the loss as the Hooks won in a walk-off on Saturday.

Shortstop Edwin Diaz’s big night at the plate helped the Ports snap their five-game losing streak on Saturday. Diaz slugged a grand slam in the 1st inning to give Stockton a lead it would never surrender. The 22-year-old also singled in a run in the 7th, while second baseman Trace Loehr singled twice and walked with the bases loaded to bring in a run in the 4th, and left fielder Greg Deichmann went 0 for 4 with 3 strikeouts in his return fro the disabled list on Saturday. Starter Zack Erwin allowed 4 runs over 5 frames and notched his 8th win, while RHP Angel Duno pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief to pick up his 12th save for the Ports.

This year’s 14th-round draft pick for the A’s, RHP Gus Varland, made the start and was charged with 2 unearned runs over 2 2/3 innings of work, while last year’s 24th-round pick, RHP Slater Lee, allowed 2 runs, 1 earned, in 2 innings of relief to suffer his 3rd loss for the Lake Monsters. This year’s 33rd-round pick, designated hitter Joseph Pena, singled, drew a pair of walks and drove in a run, while 19-year-old Venezuelan catcher Jose Rivas and last year’s 12th-round pick, first baseman Aaron Arruda, each singled, walked and scored a run in the loss. Meanwhile, outfielder Nick Osborne was added to the Lake Monsters roster on Saturday.
