RHP Brian Howard was impressive in just his second Texas League start on Monday. The 23-year-old allowed just 4 hits and struck out 9 while throwing 7 shutout innings for the RockHounds, and he left the game with a three-run lead. RHP Corey Walter returned from the disabled list to toss 1 scoreless inning in relief, but RHP Miguel Romero was charged with 6 runs, 5 earned, in the 9th inning to suffer the loss for Midland. First baseman Seth Brown tripled in a pair of runs for the RockHounds in the loss.

The Sounds were shut out on seven hits in the first game of Monday’s doubleheader. Starter Norge Ruiz surrendered 6 runs over 4 1/3 frames to suffer his 1st loss for the Sounds. Left fielder Anthony Garcia had 2 hits, including his 16th double to tie him with Sheldon Neuse for the team lead. Meanwhile, RHP Liam Hendriks cleared waivers and was outrighted to the Sounds on Monday.

Nashville went down to defeat in the second game of Monday’s doubleheader as the Sounds were swept in the twinbill. Starter Ben Bracewell surrendered 6 runs over 5 frames to suffer his 3rd loss for Nashville. Catcher Bruce Maxwell went 3 for 3 and drove in a run, while right fielder Ramon Laureano ripped his 6th home run, and left fielder Nick Martini singled and walked to extend his on-base streak to 62 games.

LHP Zack Erwin turned in an outstanding start for Stockton on Monday, allowing 1 run on just 2 hits while striking out 6 over 6 innings of work to pick up his 7th win for the Ports. LHP Andrew Tomasovich and RHP Sam Sheehan each tossed 1 scoreless inning in relief, and RHP Angel Duno notched his 9th save despite surrendering a pair of runs in the top of the 9th for the Ports. Center fielder Luis Barrera tripled and tagged a two-run homer, while catcher Collin Theroux slugged a solo shot, and A’s third baseman Matt Chapman went 1 for 4 with a strikeout in what’s expected to be his only rehab game with Stockton.

The Snappers suffered their third loss in their last four games on Monday. LHP Ivan Andueza delivered a strong start for the Snappers, allowing 3 runs, just 2 earned, while striking out 7 over 6 2/3 innings of work, but he still ended up being saddled with the loss. Center fielder Austin Beck singled, doubled, drew a pair of walks and drove in a run, while third baseman Jesus Lopez doubled in a run, and left fielder Lazaro Armenteros singled and scored a run in his return from the disabled list. Meanwhile, Beloit RHP Bryce Conley was placed on the disabled list on Monday and RHP Joseph Camacho was activated from the DL and assigned to the Snappers.

After winning by one run on Sunday, the Lake Monsters lost by one run on Monday. This year’s 5th-round draft pick for the A’s, RHP Brady Feigl, made the start and was charged with 1 run in 2 2/3 innings of work to take the loss. LHP Chris Kohler gave up 2 runs in 2 1/3 innings of relief, but 20-year-old Dominican RHP Jose Mora was solid out of the bullpen, allowing just 1 hit and striking out 7 over 4 scoreless frames for Vermont. This year’s 4th-round pick, first baseman Alfonso Rivas, tripled and walked twice, while right fielder Anthony Churlin drew a pair of walks and singled in a run for the Lake Monsters in the loss.
