This year’s 4th-round draft pick for the A’s, first baseman Alfonso Rivas, led the Lake Monsters to their fifth straight win on Wednesday. With his team down by a run and two men on in the bottom of the 7th inning, the 21-year-old out of the Unversity of Arizona tagged a three-run homer to provide the margin of victory for Vermont. Rivas, who was known for his plate discipline in college, walked but was left stranded in the 5th and later drew a walk with the bases loaded to bring home a run in the 8th. This year’s 2nd-round draft pick, center fielder Jameson Hannah, singled, walked and drove in 3 runs, while the A’s third overall pick, shortstop Jeremy Eierman, had a pair of hits and scored twice. Second baseman Jesus Lage singled, doubled and walked, and designated hitter Payton Squier drew 3 walks and singled in a pair of runs for the Lake Monsters. This year’s 7th-round pick, RHP Charlie Cerny, made the start and pitched 1 scoreless inning, while 21-year-old Dominican RHP Rafael Kelly allowed 3 runs, just 1 earned, over 6 innings of work to earn the win, and 21-year-old Dominican RHP Jaimito Lebron tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief to secure the save for Vermont. Meanwhile, 17th-round outfielder Devin Foyle and 20th-round second baseman Max Schuemann were added to the Lake Monsters roster, and outfielders James Terrell, Adrian Spitz and J.C. Rodriguez were all released on Wednesday. You can find Vermont’s complete, updated roster here.
