Vermont Lake Monsters  5

WP: Tovar 1-0 / 0.00

HR: Squier (1)

Prospect Of The Game:

Outfielder Payton Squier

(4 for 5 / Home Run / Triple / 3 Runs)

Right fielder Payton Squier had a big night to help the Lake Monsters win in a walk-off in the completion of Monday’s suspended game on Tuesday night. Monday’s game was suspended after RHP Wandisson Charles had thrown just seven pitches in the top of the 1st inning, so the vast majority of the game remained to be completed on Tuesday. Squier, who was the A’s 16th-round draft pick last year, had 4 hits in the game. The 22-year-old got things started for Vermont by homering to tie things up at one apiece in the bottom of the 2nd inning. He singled and came around to score the go-ahead run in the 6th and then, with two outs and the game tied in the bottom of the 9th, he tripled and came in to score the winning run on a bases-loaded walk to shortstop Jesus Lage as the Lake Monsters won Tuesday’s first game in a walk-off. 18-year-old Dominican second baseman Marcos Brito had 3 hits, stole a base and drove a pair of runs, including the go-ahead runs in both the 2nd and the 6th, and this year’s 4th-round draft pick for the A’s, first baseman Alfonso Rivas, drew a walk, stole a base and doubled in a run for Vermont. 22-year-old Venezuelan LHP Jhenderson Hurtado took over on the mound when the game resumed on Tuesday and gave up 2 runs while striking out 7 over 5 frames, and 20-year-old Venezuelan RHP Oscar Tovar allowed 1 unearned run in 2 innings of relief to pick up the victory for Vermont. Prospect Of The Game:

Pitcher Adam Reuss

(4 2/3 IP / 2 H / 0 ER / 2 BB / 7K)

The Lake Monsters shut out Connecticut on just three hits in Tuesday’s regularly-scheduled contest. But Vermont was no-hit until the final at-bat of the game. With the completion of Monday’s suspended game also on the bill, Tuesday’s regularly-scheduled match was set to be a 7-inning contest. Last year’s 29th-round draft pick for the A’s, RHP Adam Reuss, made the start and was outstanding, allowing just 2 hits and striking out 7 while tossing 4 2/3 shutout innings, and he left with the game a scoreless tie. LHP Chris Kohler replaced Reuss on the mound and was solid in relief, allowing 1 hit and striking out 7 over 3 1/3 scoreless innings for the Lake Monsters. With the game a scoreless tie and Vermont still hitless in the bottom of the 8th, third baseman Javier Godard was placed on second base to start the inning, and then, with one out, 22-year-old Robert Mullen lined a single to left field to drive home the winning run as the Lake Monsters notched their second walk-off win of the day and won their fourth straight on Tuesday.
