Designated hitter Anthony Garcia’s big bat couldn’t keep the Sounds from falling to Albuquerque in the opener of their four-game series on Saturday. Garcia led off the 2nd inning with his first home run of the game to put Nashville on the board and then homered again with one out in the 6th for the Sounds. Garcia currently leads the team with a total of 11 home runs and 23 extra-base hits. Shortstop Jorge Mateo had 3 hits, including a double, and drove in a run, while first baseman Nick Martini singled, doubled, drew a walk and drove in a pair, and center fielder Boog Powell went 1 for 4 and stole a base in his first rehab game with Nashville. RHP James Naile had a shaky start for the Sounds, surrendering 8 runs on 14 hits over 6 frames to suffer his 6th loss, while LHP Ryan Buchter walked 1 and struck out 1 while throwing 1 scoreless inning of relief in his first rehab appearance for the Sounds. And with Oakland third baseman Matt Chapman landing on the disabled list, the A’s recalled infielder Franklin Barreto. Oakland also recalled Nashville RHP Josh Lucas and sent RHP Carlos Ramirez back to the Sounds on Saturday. Meanwhile, RHP Raul Alcantara is set to make his first start of the season for the Sounds on Sunday.

LHP Evan Manrino turned in his second straight strong start for Stockton on Saturday. The 25-year-old shut out Modesto through 6 innings before exiting after putting two men on in the 7th. RHP Brendan Butler took over on the mound and allowed both runners to score with the help of a throwing error by Butler, and the two unearned runs were charged to Manarino, who also struck out 8 over his 6 innings of work. Butler went to allow 3 more unearned runs in the 7th to suffer his 2nd loss for Stockton. Shortstop Kevin Merrell collected 3 hits, including a pair of doubles, and scored a run, while left fielder Luke Persico doubled and drew a walk, and center fielder Luis Barrera had a pair of hits and drove in a run for the Ports.

LHP Jared Poche had a rough start for the Snappers, surrendering 7 runs in just 1 2/3 innings to suffer his 5th loss on Saturday. Second baseman Ryan Gridley singled twice, drew a walk, drove in a run and swiped a pair of bases, while shortstop Nick Allen had 2 hits and a walk, and center fielder Austin Beck singled and drove in 2 runs with a pair of sacrifice flies for the Snappers.

The Lake Monsters notched their first win of the season in their second game against Tri-City on Saturday. Designated hitter Anthony Churlin homered, doubled and drew a pair of walks, while third baseman Javier Godard hit a two-run homer, and right fielder Payton Squier tripled in the winning run in the top of the 8th for the Lake Monsters. 20-year-old Dominican RHP Jose Mora made the start and allowed just 1 unearned run over 4 frames, while LHP Brandon Marsonek tossed 2 scoreless innings despite issuing 6 walks, and RHP Slater Lee was charged with 1 unearned run in 3 innings of relief to pick up the victory for Vermont.
