The RockHounds went down to defeat in a slugfest on Tuesday, but there were still some mighty impressive performances by Midland hitters in the match. Right fielder Tyler Marincov hit a two-run homer to put the Hounds on the board in the bottom of the 2nd. Then, with his team down by six runs, Marincov ripped a rare inside-the-park grand slam in the 3rd that brought Midland back within two. Center fielder J.P. Sportman also hit a pair of homers, a two-run blast in the 2nd and a solo shot in the 4th. Sportman also doubled but was left stranded in the 1st. Midland starter Joel Seddon struggled mightily, surrendering 10 runs in just 2 2/3 innings of work to suffer his 3rd loss, while last year’s 28th-round draft pick for the A’s, LHP Pat Krall, allowed 1 run in 3 innings of relief in his Double-A debut on Tuesday.

Stockton shut out Modesto on just four hits on Tuesday. RHP Dustin Hurlbutt made the start and allowed just 2 baserunners on 2 hits while walking none over 5 shutout innings to earn his 1st win. Hurlbutt allowed his only 2 baserunners in the 1st inning and then set down the next 13 batters in order before leaving with the lead. After spending the first seven weeks of the season on the disabled list, Hurlbutt has now started off his season by throwing 8 2/3 scoreless innings for Stockton. LHP Evan Manarino took over in the 6th and tossed 4 scoreless frames to complete the shutout and pick up his 1st save for the Ports. Center fielder Luis Barrera had a big night at the plate, collecting 3 hits, including a home run and a double, and driving in 3 runs, while second baseman Nate Mondou singled and homered, and right fielder Dairon Blanco contributed a pair of hits, including a double, and drove in a run for the Ports.

RHP Xavier Altamirano turned in his third straight quality start for the Snappers, allowing just 1 run over 6 2/3 innings of work to earn the win, while RHP Seth Martinez got the final out to secure his 4th save in the first game of Tuesday’s doubleheader. Designated hitter Logan Farrar drew a walk and hit a two-run homer, while center fielder Mickey McDonald singled, tripled and drove in a run for the Snappers.
