After two impressive pitching performances helped Stockton sweep Saturday’s doubleheader, the Ports won with the help of another outstanding pitching performance on Sunday. 24-year-old RHP Matt Milburn notched 6 strikeouts while throwing 5 shutout frames to earn the victory as Stockton won its third straight. And Ports starting pitchers have now allowed just 1 run while striking out 27 in 19 2/3 innings over Stockton’s first four games this season. Designated hitter William Toffey wielded the big bat for the Ports, collecting 4 hits, including a double, while driving in 4 runs. Third baseman Edwin Diaz homered and walked, while center fielder Dairon Blanco had a pair of hits and drove in a run. Left fielder Luis Barrera singled, walked and stole a base, and right fielder Greg Deichmann collected his 3rd double of the season, drove in a run and drew a pair of walks for the Ports.

The Sounds were shut out on just two hits on Sunday to drop their third straight to New Orleans. Second baseman Steve Lombardozzi and third baseman Renato Nunez both singled to account for Nashville’s hit total on the day, while right fielder Nick Martini drew a pair of walks in the game. Starter Eric Jokisch allowed 4 runs, 3 earned, over 5 innings of work to suffer the loss in his Sounds debut. Meanwhile, RHP Kyle Finnegan was solid in relief, striking out a pair while pitching 2 perfect innings in relief for Nashville. In other news, with Boog Powell landing on the disabled list for Oakland, Sounds outfielder Mark Canha was recalled by the A’s on Sunday. And former A’s LHP Brett Anderson is expected to make his first start for the Sounds on Monday.

24-year-old Cuban RHP Norge Ruiz didn’t fare well in his Double-A debut for Midland on Sunday. Ruiz was charged with 8 runs in just 1 2/3 innings of work to suffer the loss for the RockHounds. Left fielder Tyler Ramirez tripled, doubled twice and drove in a pair, while shortstop Eli White collected 3 hits, including a home run. Third baseman Mikey White slugged his 2nd home run of the season, and catcher Sean Murphy singled and homered, and the A’s top catching prospect is now batting .400 over the first four games of the season. RHP Kyle Friedrichs is set to take the mound for Midland on Monday.
MIDWEST LEAGUE (Class-A)

The Snappers suffered their first loss of the season on Sunday. Starter Xavier Altamirano allowed 3 runs over 4 2/3 frames to take the loss. Center fielder Austin Beck had 2 hits, including a double, and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, and last year’s top draft pick for the A’s is now batting .357 with 5 RBIs over his first three games for the Snappers. Catcher Skyler Weber and first baseman Miguel Mercedes each singled and doubled, while second baseman Trace Loehr singled, walked and stole a base in the loss. RHP Michael Danielak is set to make the start for the Snappers on Monday.
