This year’s 10th-round draft pick for the A’s, center fielder Jack Meggs, had a big night at the plate for the Lake Monsters on Sunday. The 22-year-old out of the University of Washington had 3 hits, including a home run, and drove in 4 runs, and he’s now batting .533, going 8 for 15 with 2 home runs and 2 doubles over the first 5 games of his pro career for Vermont. First baseman Jarrett Costa had 2 hits, including a double, and drove in a run, and second baseman Jesus Lopez singled, doubled and drove in a pair. 18-year-old Panamanian RHP Abdiel Mendoza turned in an outstanding start on Sunday, allowing just 1 run over 5 innings of work to earn the win, while 6-foot-6 Dominican RHP Wandisson Charles tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief to secure the save for the Lake Monsters.

The Sounds won in a walk-off for the second straight night on Sunday. RHP Chris Smith turned in a strong start for the Sounds, allowing just 2 runs and striking out 6 over 6 innings of work, but RHP Josh Smith gave up 2 runs in the 7th to allow Oklahoma City to tie the game. Second baseman Joey Wendle collected 3 doubles and drove in a run, while center fielder Jaff Decker had 2 hits and 2 walks and scored 2 runs, including the winning run in the bottom of the 9th thanks to a throwing error on Wendle’s ground ball by Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy. RHP Simon Castro tossed a scoreless top of the 9th to notch the win for the second straight night. Meanwhile, the A’s recalled RHP Zach Neal and sent starter Jesse Hahn to the Sounds on Sunday.

The RockHounds suffered their ninth loss in their last eleven games on Sunday. LHP A.J. Puk was solid in his third start for Midland. The 22-year-old allowed just 1 hit while holding Tulsa scoreless through the first 5 frames and ended up allowing 2 runs over 6 innings of work, and he exited with the game tied. RHP Aaron Kurcz tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief, but RHP Tyler Sturdevant surrendered 3 runs in the top of the 9th to take the loss. Shortstop Richie Martin had 2 hits, including a double, stole a base and drove in 2 runs, while right fielder J.P. Sportman singled, doubled, walked, stole a base and scored twice, and left fielder Tyler Ramirez went 1 for 2 with a walk in his Double-A debut on Sunday.

The Ports prevailed for the third straight game on Sunday. Rehabbing RHP Chris Bassitt started the contest and tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings for Stockton. RHP Brandon Bailey replaced him on the mound and allowed 4 runs and struck out 8 over 4 1/3 frames and wound up picking up the win in his California League debut. LHP Andrew Tomasovich tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief, and RHP Nolan Blackwood pitched a perfect 9th to notch the save for Stockton. Left fielder Brett Siddall had a big night at the plate for the Ports, collecting a home run and a double and driving in a pair, while designated hitter Nate Mondou walked, stole a base and doubled in a run, and third baseman Matt Chapman went 0 for 3 with a walk and 3 strikeouts in his second rehab appearance for Stockton.

The Snappers secured their seventh win in their last ten games on Sunday. First baseman Kyle Nowlin belted a game-tying 2-run homer in the bottom of the 2nd inning for Beloit, while right fielder Luis Barrera doubled in the winning run in the 3rd, and center fielder Mike Martin doubled in another run in the 4th. Third baseman Trace Loehr collected 3 hits, and left fielder Luke Persico singled, doubled and scored a run for the Snappers. Starter Kyle Twomey allowed 2 runs over 5 innings of work to earn the win, while RHP Jesus Zambrano was outstanding in relief, tossing 4 scoreless frames to post the save for the Snappers.
