With two outs, the bases loaded and his team up 2-0 in the top of the 5th inning, first baseman Viosergy Rosa stepped to the plate and belted a grand slam to provide the Hounds with a healthy 6-run lead and help his team with its third straight on Monday. Rosa also singled in the game, while shortstop Richie Martin slugged a solo shot in the 3rd inning, and second baseman J.P. Sportman blasted a 3-run homer in the 8th. Meanwhile on the mound, Hounds hurlers shut out the Hooks on 2 hits on Monday. Starter Corey Walter allowed both hits over 5 scoreless innings to earn the win in his first appearance since returning to the RockHounds roster from the Sounds. LHP Brandon Mann, who’d allowed 11 runs over his last 3 1/3 innings, threw 4 no-hit frames to earn his 1st save for Midland on Monday. And with Walter’s return to the roster, LHP Kyle Twomey was sent back to extended spring training in Arizona.

The Sounds came within one run late in the game but ultimately ended up coming up short at Colorado Springs on Monday. Starter Daniel Gossett allowed 3 runs over 5 2/3 frames to suffer his 2nd loss for the Sounds, while RHP Bobby Wahl surrendered 1 run in the 7th, and LHP Ross Detwiler and RHP Simon Castro were charged with a pair of runs apiece in the 8th. Renato Nunez, making his first start of the season in left field, slugged a solo shot in the 7th, and right fielder Mark Canha followed with a shot of his own in the 8th. Shortstop Franklin Barreto collected 3 hits and drove in a run, while designated hitter Ryan LaMarre went 1 for 5 in his first game for the Sounds. And with LaMarre joining the roster, outfielder Andrew Lambo was placed on the disabled list with a wrist injury.

Stockton battled back to win in the bottom on the 9th at Banner Island Ballpark on Monday. Right fielder Seth Brown slugged a solo shot to put the Ports on the board in the 2nd, while third baseman Mikey White smacked a shot of his own in the 5th. Left fielder Brett Siddall doubled in the tying run in the 7th, and center fielder Tyler Ramirez then singled in the winning run in the bottom of the 9th to help the Ports win in a walk-off. Starter Brett Graves was charged with 2 unearned runs over 3 2/3 innings of work while walking none and striking out 4. He set down the final 7 batters he faced while lowering his ERA to a miserly 0.50, but he left the game with his team down by a run. His tandem-pitching partner, RHP Casey Meisner, who’d struggled for most of the season, was impressive in relief on Monday, striking out 7 while holding Lancaster scoreless over 3 2/3 innings. LHP Jared Lyons came on to get the final out in the top of the 9th to pick up the win for the Ports.

 

MIDWEST LEAGUE  (Class-A)

Beloit starter Brendan Butler was charged with 2 unearned runs over 4 innings of work, but he still managed to lower his ERA to 1.35 on Monday. His tandem-starting mate, LHP Ty Damron, was outstanding in relief, striking out 6 over 4 scoreless frames to earn his 1st win for the Snappers. Center fielder JaVon Shelby doubled and hit his 4th home run to tie him for the team lead, while first baseman Luke Persico singled, walked and homered. Catcher Collin Theroux drew a pair of walks and tagged a 2-run shot, and second baseman Nate Mondou tripled, doubled and drove in a pair to help the Snappers win their third straight on Monday.
