First baseman Viosergy Rosa had a big night at the plate, but it wasn’t enough to help the RockHounds prevail on Friday. Rosa ripped a 3-run homer in the 6th inning to tie the game and slugged a 2-run shot in the 8th to give his team the lead. But RHP Jake Sanchez surrendered 2 runs in the top of the 9th to blow the save and send the game to extra innings, and RHP Sam Bragg allowed 3 runs, 1 earned, in the 11th to take the loss. Midland starter Corey Walter was charged with 2 unearned runs in 4 1/3 innings of work, while second baseman Max Schrock collected 3 hits for the Hounds, and shortstop Richie Martin walked twice and made 4 errors in his Double-A debut on Friday. Martin was promoted to Midland from the Ports prior to the game, while RockHounds RHP Heath Fillmyer was placed on the disabled list and RHP Kris Hall was reassigned to the AZL A’s roster.

The opening game of the Sounds’ final regular-season series in New Orleans was canceled due to rain on Friday and will not be rescheduled. But there was still Sounds news on Friday. Nashville skipper Steve Scarsone was named the Pacific Coast League Manager of the Year. His team’s 83-57 record is currently the best in the PCL, and his squad is set to begin playoff play next Wednesday. And with major league rosters expanding, catcher Matt McBride was recalled by the A’s on Friday. LHP Sean Doolittle and RHP Jesse Hahn both ended their rehab assignments, with Doolittle returning to the A’s and Hahn being optioned to Nashville. With McBride heading to Oakland, catcher Jose Chavez was reassigned from the Snappers to the Sounds. And Nashville RHP Daniel Mengden is expected to be recalled by Oakland in time to make Saturday’s start for the A’s.

RHP Casey Meisner had his third straight rough start for Stockton, and he ended up being charged with 5 runs in just 3 1/3 innings of work on Friday. RHP Koby Gauna tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief, and the Ports held a 1-run lead until RHP Corey Miller surrendered 2 runs in the top of the 8th to suffer his 2nd loss for Stockton. Right fielder Justin Higley singled, doubled and drove in a run, while center fielder Seth Brown and first baseman Chris Iriart had a pair of hits apiece and each drove in a run in the loss.

The Snappers were shut out on just 2 hits on Friday. Right fielder Brett Siddall doubled and left fielder Robert Martinez singled in the loss. RHP Angel Duno delivered a solid start, allowing 2 runs over 5 innings of work to suffer his 7th loss for the Snappers. And with Beloit catcher Jose Chavez promoted to Nashville, AZL A’s catcher Roger Gonzalez was reassigned to the Snappers on Friday.

RHP Xavier Altamirano turned in a strong start for Vermont on Friday, allowing just 2 unearned runs while striking out 6 over 5 innings of work, and he left with the game a 2-2 tie. LHP Tyler Painton threw 3 scoreless frames, while LHP Will Gilbert tossed 2 scoreless innings to earn his 2nd victory for Vermont. Second baseman Nate Mondou tripled in a run in the top of the 3rd inning and shortstop Eli White singled in another run in the same frame, while left fielder Rob Bennie singled in the winning run in the top of the 10th for the Lake Monsters.
