After going 4 for 34 in his first 9 games since his promotion to Double-A, right fielder Joe Bennie had a big night at the plate on Saturday, belting a pair of home runs and driving in 4 runs for the RockHounds. With the game tied in the bottom of the 5th inning, Bennie blasted a solo shot to give the Hounds the lead and he then added a 3-run drive in Midland’s 9-run 8th. Left fielder J.P. Sportman had 2 hits and drove in a pair of runs for the RockHounds, while LHP Brandon Mann delivered an outstanding start on Saturday, allowing just 1 run over 6 innings of work to earn his 2nd win for Midland.

With two men on and the game tied in the top of the 9th, center fielder Jaycob Brugman doubled to drive in both runners and provide the margin of victory for the Sounds on Saturday. Brugman doubled twice, singled, walked twice and drove in 3 runs on the night. Shortstop Josh Rodriguez also had 3 hits, including a pair of doubles, walked twice and drove in a run, while first baseman Matt Olson singled and hit his 14th home run, a 2-run shot to put the Sounds on the board in the top of the 1st. Starter Chris Jensen allowed 5 runs, 2 earned, over 5 2/3 innings, and he left with the game tied. Rehabbing LHP Sean Doolittle gave up 1 run in 1 inning of relief, while RHP Angel Castro tossed a scoreless bottom of the 8th to pick up the win, and RHP Bobby Wahl got the final three outs to post his 2nd save for the Sounds.

After looking impressive in his last outing, RHP Casey Meisner had a shaky start for Stockton on Saturday, allowing 6 runs over 3 2/3 innings to suffer his 13th loss. Center fielder B.J. Boyd singled, doubled, walked and drove in 2 runs, while third baseman Jose Brizuela singled, walked and drove in a pair for the Ports.

Starter Brendan Butler allowed 3 runs over 6 innings of work to suffer his 4th loss for the Snappers on Saturday. First baseman Ryan Howell doubled twice and walked, while second baseman Trent Gilbert collected 3 hits, and designated hitter Luis Barrera doubled in a run in the loss.

This year’s top draft pick for the A’s, LHP A.J. Puk, turned in an impressive start for the Lake Monsters on Saturday, allowing just 2 hits while walking none and striking out 5 over 5 shutout innings, and he left with the game a scoreless tie. But RHP Xavier Altamirano gave up 3 runs in 3 innings of relief to take his 3rd loss for the Lake Monsters. Designated hitter Eric Marinez had a pair of hits, while first baseman Miguel Mercedes doubled in Vermont’s sole run in the loss.
