For his fourth straight start, RHP Daniel Gossett gave up just 1 earned run for the RockHounds, but it wasn’t enough to earn him the win on Thursday. The 23-year-old also allowed 1 unearned run while scattering just 3 hits and notching a career-high 9 strikeouts without issuing a walk over 7 innings of work,  but he left the game with his team down by a run on Thursday. Over his last 4 starts for Midland, Gossett has given up just 4 earned runs and struck out 24 batters in 25 2/3 frames. Third baseman Matt Chapman homered for the second straight night, ripping his league-leading 24th round-tripper to put the RockHounds on the board in the 6th inning. He also singled in the 1st and walked and came around to score in the top of the 9th, while designated hitter Viosergy Rosa doubled in both the tying and winning run in the 9th to help the RockHounds win their fourth straight on Thursday. RHP Lou Trivino tossed a scoreless 8th to pick up the win, while RHP Bobby Wahl got the final three outs in the 9th to notch his 9th save for Midland.

RHP Chris Smith turned in a strong start for the Sounds on Thursday, allowing just 1 run over 6 innings of work to earn his 6th win, while rehabbing RHP Andrew Triggs tossed 2 scoreless innings in relief, and RHP Tucker Healy pitched a perfect 9th to pick up his 6th save. Third baseman Renato Nunez slugged his team-leading 16th home run, while second baseman Arismendy Alcantara singled in a run, and catcher Matt McBride and first baseman Matt Olson had a pair of hits apiece for the Sounds.

Left fielder B.J. Boyd had a big night at the plate for the Ports, collecting 3 hits, including his 6th home run, while driving in 3 runs and scoring 3 times for Stockton. First baseman Sandber Pimentel slugged his 17th home run, a 3-run shot, while center fielder James Harris had 2 hits and a walk and scored twice, and second baseman Mikey White doubled in a pair for the Ports. Starter James Naile allowed 4 runs over 5 1/3 innings to pick up his 1st win for Stockton.

Starter Dustin Hurlbutt allowed 3 runs, just 1 earned, over 6 innings of work to suffer his 2nd loss for the Snappers on Thursday. Designated hitter Brett Siddall singled, walked and was also hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in Beloit’s second run in the 7th inning, while catcher Jordan Devencenzi singled in a run in the 5th, and shortstop Edwin Diaz had a pair of hits in the loss.

This year’s top draft pick for the A’s, LHP A.J.Puk, gave up 4 runs, 2 earned, on 4 hits while walking 2 and striking out 4 on 61 pitches in 2 2/3 innings to take his 1st loss as the Lake Monsters dropped their fifth straight on Thursday. RHP Xavier Altamirano allowed 1 run over 4 1/3 innings of relief, and LHP Ty Damron tossed 2 scoreless frames for Vermont. This year’s 11th-round pick, shortstop Eli White, singled and homered, while second baseman Nate Mondou, left fielder Luis Barrera and right fielder Jhonny Rodriguez had a pair of hits apiece in the loss.

20-year-old Venezuelan RHP Argenis Blanco was solid again on Thursday, allowing just 1 run while striking out 5 over 5 innings of work, but he left the game with his team down by a run. RHP Matt Milburn threw 3 scoreless innings in relief, while RHP Sam Sheehan tossed a scoreless top of the 9th to notch his 1st win. Right fielder Rob Bennie and first baseman Charley Gould collected 3 hits apiece, and the A’s scored the winning run in the bottom of the 9th thanks to a walk and 2 errors.
