After being down by 4 runs, the Ports came back to put the winning run on the board in the bottom of the 8th inning on Thursday night at Banner Island Ballpark in Stockton. With a man on first, two outs and the game tied in the bottom of the 8th, first baseman Sandber Pimentel stepped to the plate and hit a double into the left field corner to bring home the winning run all the way from first base. Pimentel also walked with the bases loaded to bring in a run in the 5th and would score what was then the go-ahead run later in the same inning. Right fielder Joe Bennie singled, doubled, walked and drove in 2 runs, while second baseman Mikey White had 2 singles and drove in a pair for the Ports. Starter Matt Stalcup allowed 6 runs over 5 innings of work, while LHP Cody Stull pitched 2 perfect innings in relief, and RHP Carlos Navas picked up the win despite giving up the tying run in the top of the 8th for Stockton.

The Sounds were shut out on just 5 hits as they lost for the seventh time in their last eight games on Thursday. RHP Jesse Hahn turned in an outstanding start, allowing 1 run on just 3 hits while walking 1 and striking out 5 over 6 innings of work, but he still ended up suffering his 5th loss. First baseman Matt Olson doubled for Nashville’s only extra-base hit on Thursday.

Starter Daniel Gossett allowed 4 runs, 3 earned, over 5 innings of work to take his 3rd loss for the RockHounds on Thursday. Second baseman Yairo Munoz had 3 hits and drove in a run, while designated hitter Matt Chapman doubled in a run in the loss.

RHP James Naile turned in another strong start for the Snappers on Thursday, allowing 3 runs, 2 earned, on just 3 hits over 7 innings of work, while RHP Tyler Willman gave up 2 runs in 1 inning of relief to take the loss. First baseman Ryan Howell had a pair of hits, walked twice and drove in a run, while center fielder Justin Higley tripled in what was then the go-ahead run in the top of the 8th, and catcher Jose Chavez, right fielder Brett Siddall and designated hitter Skye Bolt all singled, doubled and scored a run in the loss.
ARIZONA LEAGUE (Rookie Short-Season)

20-year-old Venezuelan RHP Argenis Blanco was solid on Thursday, allowing just 1 run over 5 innings of work, and he left the game with a 2-run lead. But RHP Emerson Nelo gave up 3 runs in 1 1/3 innings of relief, and RHP Frederick De La Cruz surrendered 2 runs in 2/3 of an inning to suffer the loss. This year’s 26th-round draft pick for the A’s, first baseman Charles Gould, had 2 hits and a walk and drove in a pair, while 34th-round shortstop Casey Thomas had 2 singles, drove in a run and stole a base, and catcher Robert Mullen and right fielder Robert Martinez each doubled and scored a run in the loss.
