Third baseman Matt Chapman smacked 2 home runs to take back the Texas League home run lead and help the Hounds win their second straight against Springfield on Wednesday. Chapman slugged a solo shot with two outs in the top of the 1st to give Midland an early lead and then tagged a 2-run homer in his next trip to the plate in the 4th. Right fielder Tyler Marincov immediately followed that up with his 1st Texas League home run as he and Chapman went back-to-back, and designated hitter John Nogowski then notched his 1st home run since joining the RockHounds in the 5th. Starter Chris Jensen had a solid outing, allowing just 1 run over 5 innings of work to earn his 3rd win, and RHP Ben Bracewell got the final three outs to post his 2nd save for Midland.

RHP Daniel Mengden turned in another impressive start for the Sounds, allowing just 1 run on 4 hits while walking 1 and striking out 5 over 7 innings of work on Wednesday. And the 23-year-old has now allowed just 3 runs in 34 innings over his first 5 starts for the Sounds. But RHP Ryan Brasier gave up 2 runs in relief on Wednesday and the game ended up going to extra innings. First baseman Matt Olson singled and doubled in the game, while left fielder Andrew Lambo singled and slugged his 2nd home run in the 8th. Center fielder Jaycob Brugman had 3 hits, including a double, knocked in Nashville’s first run in the 4th and scored the tying run in the top of the 9th, and third baseman Ryon Healy singled, walked and had the big blow, an RBI double in the top of the 12th to drive home the winning run for the Sounds. RHP J.B. Wendelken tossed a scoreless 11th and 12th to earn his 1st win on Wednesday. And with infielder Jed Lowrie returning from the disabled list for Oakland and RHP Zach Neal promoted to make Wednesday night’s start for the A’s, infielder Max Muncy and LHP Daniel Coulombe were both optioned back to the Sounds.

RHP Daniel Gossett got off to a great start for Stockton, allowing just 1 baserunner through 5 scoreless innings, but he gave up 1 run in the 6th and was charged with 3 runs in the 7th. Gossett ended up allowing 4 runs over 6 1/3 innings and walked away with his 4th win on Wednesday. The Ports put a total of 16 runs on the board against Lancaster. Third baseman Jose Brizuela homered for the second straight night, doubled and drove in 4 runs, while first baseman Sandber Pimentel slugged a 3-run homer. In just his second game this season, shortstop Richie Martin had 3 hits, including his 1st California League home run, and drove in a pair, and second baseman Mikey White doubled and hit his 1st home run for Stockton.
