2014’s 2nd-round draft pick for the A’s, RHP Daniel Gossett, delivered his best start so far this season, allowing just 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 9 over 7 scoreless innings as Stockton shut out Visalia on Friday to snap a 3-game losing streak. Gossett allowed just one baserunner in the 1st, 4th, 5th and 7th innings and never let a runner past second base in his 7 innings of work. LHP Cody Stull came on to get the final six outs for the Ports. Left fielder James Harris reached base 5 times, on 3 singles, a double and a walk, and drove in a pair, while center fielder Seth Brown had a pair of doubles, a single and a walk and drove in a run for the Ports.

RHP Daniel Mengden turned in another stellar start for the Sounds on Friday, allowing just 1 run while striking out 8 over 7 innings of work to notch his 2nd win as Nashville won its sixth straight. Mengden has now allowed a total of just 2 runs in 27 innings since joining the Sounds. LHP Patrick Schuster tossed a scoreless 8th, and RHP J.B. Wendelken got to final three outs in the 9th for his 4th save. The Sounds had just 3 hits on Friday. First baseman Rangel Ravelo hit his 2nd home run in the 4th inning, while left fielder Andrew Lambo singled and walked twice, and catcher Bruce Maxwell went 1 for 3 in his first game back in action after being sidelined for 12 days with a sore shoulder. With Oakland’s Josh Reddick landing on the disabled list with a fractured thumb, Sounds outfielder Jake Smolinski was recalled by the A’s, and RockHounds outfielder Jaycob Brugman should soon be taking his place on the Nashville roster.

Starter Chris Jensen gave up 3 runs in 7 innings of work on Friday and left with the game a 3-3 tie. And it remained tied until RHP Andres Avila allowed 1 run in the top of the 10th to take the loss as the Hounds dropped their seventh straight. Matt Chapman, making his fourth start at shortstop, homered for the second straight day, slugging his 11th in the 4th inning to tie the game and take the Texas League home run lead. Second baseman Franklin Barreto collected 3 hits, including a double, and center fielder Jaycob Brugman walked twice and singled in a pair of runs in what’s expected to be his last game with the RockHounds before taking recently-promoted Jake Smolinski’s roster spot with Nashville.

RHP Boomer Biegalski turned in another solid start for the Snappers, allowing just 1 run and striking out 5 over 7 innings of work. But RHP Armando Ruiz and LHP Andrew Tomasovich combined to surrender 7 runs, 5 earned, in the 8th inning for Beloit and Ruiz ended up taking the loss on Friday. First baseman Chris Iriart slugged his 7th home run, while shortstop Edwin Diaz and second baseman Trent Gilbert had a pair of hits apiece for the Snappers.
