The RockHounds exploded for 19 runs on Friday night, and Matt Chapman, who was serving as the designated hitter for the Hounds, had as big a night as anyone. 2014’s 1st-round draft pick for the A’s singled, tripled, walked, homered and drove in 4 runs for the RockHounds. Chapman’s home run was his 7th and he currently leads all A’s minor league regulars in both home runs and slugging percentage (.623). Left fielder J.P. Sportman homered, had a pair of singles and a walk and also drove in 4, while third baseman Ryon Healy collected 4 hits, including a triple and a double, and drove in 3 runs, and second baseman Wade Kirkland had a pair of doubles and also drove in 3. Starter Chris Jensen allowed 4 runs over 7 innings of work to earn his 2nd win for the RockHounds.

LHP Eric Surkamp was solid in his first start for the Sounds on Friday, allowing just 2 unearned runs while striking out 10 to earn the win in his debut outing for Nashville. RHP Ryan Brasier tossed a scoreless 8th and RHP J.B. Wendelken struck out the side in the 9th to pick up his 1st save. Third baseman Renato Nunez hit his 4th home run in the 4th inning to put the Sounds on the board, while right fielder Matt Olson doubled in a pair of runs later in the same inning, and center fielder Jake Smolinski collected 3 hits, including a double, for the Sounds. With LHP Sean Manaea and RHP Andrew Triggs promoted to Oakland on Friday, catcher/outfielder Matt McBride was optioned back to Nashville. And Sounds starter Jesse Hahn is expected to make his return to the mound for the A’s on Saturday.
