LHP Sean Manaea led the RockHounds to their 16th shutout of the season on Sunday. The former 1st-round draft pick scattered 4 hits while striking out 5 over 6 scoreless innings to earn his 3rd win, and two of the recently-acquired lefty’s four starts for Midland have now resulted in shutouts. RHP Kris Hall tossed a scoreless 7th, while RHP Andres Avila pitched a perfect 8th, and RHP Jonathan Joseph got the the final three outs in the 9th to nail down the 5-hit shutout for the Hounds. Right fielder Matt Olson had a big day at the plate, doubling in a pair in the bottom of the 3rd, hitting a 2-run homer in the 5th and doubling and scoring in the 7th, and Olson now has 31 doubles and 14 home runs on the season. Designated hitter Chad Pinder had 3 hits, including a double, and drove in a run, while center fielder Jaycob Brugman doubled in a pair. Left fielder Josh Whitaker had a pair of hits and drove in a run, and catcher Beau Taylor walked and doubled in the first run of the game for the RockHounds.

Nashville scored 3 runs in the 1st inning, 2 of them unearned with the help of a fielding error, but that was all the scoring the Sounds would do on Sunday. Starter Nate Long allowed 3 runs over 5 innings of work and left with the game a 3-3 tie. RHP Arnold Leon then gave up the winning run in the 6th to take the loss, while rehabbing LHP Sean Doolittle came on to strike out the side in the 8th on 13 pitches, 10 of them strikes. Outfielder Jason Pridie and second baseman Joey Wendle had a pair of hits apiece in the loss. Meanwhile, RHP Taylor Thompson cleared waivers and was outrighted to Nashville.

With two men on and the game tied in the bottom of the 8th, first baseman John Nogowski singled in both base runners to provide the winning run for the Ports on Sunday. Nogowski also doubled in the go-ahead run in the 6th before Visalia came back to tie the game in the top of the 8th. Outfielder B.J. Boyd had 2 doubles and drove in a pair, while shortstop Yairo Munoz collected 3 hits and drove in a run, and catcher Jacob Nottingham had a pair of hits and scored twice for Stockton. Starter Daniel Mengden allowed 4 runs over 5 2/3 innings of work , while RHP Lou Trivino gave up 1 run in 2 1/3 innings of relief to pick up the win, and RHP Corey Walter tossed a scoreless 9th to post his 4th save for the Ports.

Center fielder Justin Higley had a big day for Beloit on Sunday. Higley doubled in a pair of runs in the bottom of the 2nd and then hit a 3-run homer in the 4th for the Snappers. Right fielder Shawn Duinkerk slugged his 5th home run, a solo shot, in the 3rd, while left fielder Max Kuhn and designated hitter Joe Bennie both had a pair of doubles for Beloit. Starter Joey Wagman allowed 3 runs and struck out 8 in 6 innings of work to pick up his 7th win for the Snappers.

RHP Dustin Driver had a rough start on Sunday and ended up being charged with 8 runs, 6 earned, in 3 innings of work to take his 4th loss for the Lake Monsters. Right fielder Brett Siddall singled, doubled, walked twice and drove in a run, while third baseman Trace Loehr had 2 hits and drove in a pair, and center fielder Seth Brown had 3 hits and drove in a run in the loss.
