When he was scratched from his scheduled start for Nashville on Thursday, it was expected that RHP Cody Martin would be making his next start for Oakland on Friday. But the A’s decided to select LHP Brad Mills to make the start at Baltimore. Martin did end up making a start on Friday, not for the A’s at Baltimore, but for the Sounds at Iowa. And Martin turned in a strong start for Nashville, allowing just 2 runs while striking out 6 over 7 innings of work to earn is 2nd win for the Sounds. Rehabbing LHP Sean Doolittle struck out 1 in 1 scoreless inning while throwing 12 pitches, 8 for strikes, and RHP Ryan Dull got the final three outs in the 9th to close out the win for Nashville. First baseman Rangel Ravelo singled and tripled in a pair of runs in the top of the 1st, while second baseman Joey Wendle singled, tripled in a run in the 2nd, doubled in a run in the 9th and scored 3 times. Designated hitter Ryan Roberts walked twice and hit his 11th home run in the top of the 4th, and outfielder Jason Pridie had a pair of hits and drove in 3 runs for the Sounds. With Mills’ promotion to Oakland, RHP Arnold Leon was optioned back to Nashville, RHP Taylor Thompson was designated for assignment, LHP Jim Fuller was activated from the disabled list and RHP Kris Hall was returned to the RockHounds.

RHP Jake Sanchez turned in his fifth straight quality start for the RockHounds on Friday, allowing 2 runs while striking out 5 over 6 innings of work, but he still ended up suffering his 8th loss for Midland in a game that ended after 6 innings due to rain. Outfielder Josh Whitaker had a pair of hits, while third baseman Ryon Healy singled in the RockHounds’ only run in the loss. And after making an emergency start for the Sounds on Thursday, RHP Kris Hall was returned to the RockHounds on Friday.

LHP Matt Stalcup had another strong start for Stockton on Friday, allowing just 2 hits while striking out 6 over 6 shutout innings, but he left with the game a scoreless tie, and RHP Joel Seddon gave up the winning run in the top of the 8th to take his 8th loss for the Ports. Stockton was shut out on just 4 hits on Friday. Center fielder Brett Vertigan singled, doubled and stole a base in the loss. Meanwhile, outfielder J.P. Sportman was activated from the disabled list and RHP Ryan Brasier was sent to the AZL A’s on a rehab assignment.

RHP Junior Mendez had another rough start for the Snappers, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits, including 2 home runs, in just 3 innings of work to take his 10th loss on Friday. Outfielder Shawn Duinkerk homered, doubled and drove in a pair, while designated hitter Sandber Pimentel had 2 hits and drove in a run, and second baseman Gabriel Santana singled, doubled and scored a run in the loss.

With two outs, two on and his team down by two runs in the bottom of the 9th, first baseman Chris Iriart stepped to the plate and slugged a 3-run homer to allow the Lake Monsters to win in a walk-off on Friday. Starter Evan Manarino was solid, throwing 3 scoreless innings, while RHP Darwin Frias picked up his 1st win despite giving up a run in the top of the 9th for Vermont.
ARIZONA LEAGUE (Rookie Short-Season)

After missing all of last season due to Tommy John surgery, former Angels RHP Ryan Brasier was signed to a minor league contract by the A’s in July and placed on Stockton’s disabled list. On Friday, Brasier was sent to the AZL A’s on a rehab assignment and made his first appearance on the mound since 2013, pitching a 1-2-3 1st inning while striking out 1. RHP Branden Kelliher gave up 4 runs in 1 2/3 innings of work to take the loss, while 20-year-old Venezuelan LHP Ivan Andueza allowed 1 unearned run on just 1 hit while striking out 8 in 4 1/3 innings of relief. First baseman Robert Mullen doubled in the only run of the game for the A’s.
